Rural UK ISP Gigaclear<\/a> has announced that their gigabit-capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP<\/a>) broadband network is being extended to cover 3,500 homes and businesses in two neighbouring communities – the village of Aspley Guise and town of Woburn Sands – on the border between Buckinghamshire and Bedfordshire.<\/p>\n

The provider’s network, which has already covered 360,000 premises (up from 300,000 in May 2022) across rural parts of England, already passes near to both locations and so the expansion makes plenty of sense. The only catch is that Openreach<\/a> has already deployed FTTP<\/a> across a large part of Woburn Sands, which in such a small area may make it harder for Gigaclear<\/a> to make a positive impact.<\/p>\n

NOTE:<\/strong> The operator\u2019s network \u2013 backed by Infracapital and a wider investment of up to \u00a3700m \u2013 aims to reach 500,000 rural UK premises by the end of 2023.<\/div>\n

Despite the competition, local councillor John Baker<\/strong> welcomed the work and expressed his “hope<\/em>” that Swallowfield Primary, Aspley Guise Village School and Fulbrook Secondary “will soon be connected and children will be able to access all their favourite educational applications more quickly!<\/em>”<\/p>\n

The first properties in Aspley Guise and Woburn Sands are planned to be connected in March 2023, with all the work completed by the end of September next year.<\/p>\n

Tony Smith, Gigaclear<\/a> Delivery Director, said:<\/strong><\/p>\n

“Gigaclear is committed to expanding its network across many rural and hard-to-reach areas of the county where, in many cases, we represent the only opportunity for people looking for reliable and fast broadband speeds.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Residential customers of the service currently pay from \u00a340 a month (discounted to \u00a317 for the first 12-months) for a symmetric 200Mbps broadband package on an 18-month term and this rises to \u00a379 (\u00a317 for the first 12-months) for their top 830Mbps plan.
