Under the agreement Virgin will connect around a third of Sky\u2019s unbundled (LLU) local UK telephone exchanges with Sky\u2019s own wholly owned nationwide broadband network.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The <strong>five year contract<\/strong>, which was first revealed last month (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/2013\/04\/virgin-media-uk-grows-to-reach-4-49-million-cable-broadband-users.html\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>), aims to get the new core network work <strong>completed by the end of 2013<\/strong>. Each of the new connections is expected to deliver <strong>speeds of up to 10Gbps<\/strong> (Gigabits per second) through Virgin&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.virginmediabusiness.co.uk\/Products-and-solutions\/Site-to-Site-Connectivity\/High-Capacity-Services\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>High Capacity Services<\/strong><\/a> product (optical point-to-point links).<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"bq1\"><p><strong>Tony Grace, MD of VMB, said: <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;<em>High capacity connectivity is vital in today\u2019s digitally driven world. Whilst we\u2019re concentrating on developing better services for the public in our consumer division, we also believe that our high capacity network is ideally placed to provide the underlying infrastructure that can help other providers with their backhaul capacity needs<\/em>.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote class=\"bq1\"><p><strong>Mohamed Hammady, Director of Sky Network Services, added: <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;<em>As we see traffic on our network grow significantly year-on-year, this agreement provides us with the capacity we need to keep innovating for customers and as such are committed to maintaining our high-capacity network<\/em>.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>No further details were available.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Cable operator Virgin Media Business has detailed its new \u00a349 million backhaul network capacity deal with BSkyB (Sky Broadband).
