Infracapital-backed Network builder and broadband ISP Ogi<\/a>, which is investing \u00a3200m to roll-out a gigabit-capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP<\/a>) network across 150,000 premises in rural parts of Wales by 2025, has this morning announced a list of the next 23 towns and villages to benefit from their deployment.<\/p>\n

The provider, which has so far covered 42,000 premises<\/strong> (up from 23,000 in June 2022), has already connected premises across a number of locations since their rollout started last year (here<\/a> and here<\/a>) – including around Haverfordwest, Rhoose, Llantwit Major, St Athan, Abergavenny and many more (see below for a full list).<\/p>\n

NOTE:<\/strong> Ogi<\/a>’s current target of 150,000 premises is for Phase 1, but they also hold an aspiration to cover “at least<\/em>” 350,000 premises in a future Phase 2 build across other parts of Wales (possibly rising up to 500,000).<\/div>\n

In terms of the network itself, Ogi<\/a>\u2019s infrastructure has so far been deployed using dual optic combination line cards, which enables them to support both XGS-PON<\/strong> and GPON<\/strong> (common full fibre standards) simultaneously on any port of the Optical Line Terminal<\/strong> (OLT). The ISP also recently became one of the first UK ISPs to deploy Nokia\u2019s next generation 25G Passive Optical Network (25G PON<\/strong>) fibre technology onto its live network (here<\/a>).<\/p>\n

The latest towns and villages to benefit from Ogi\u2019s rollout include places such as Blackwood, Langstone, Maesteg, Pontypool, Trehafod, and Underwood. Once work is complete, homes and businesses in these areas will have access to the altnet\u2019s ultrafast network \u2013 with most able to access fibre to the door for the very first time.<\/p>\n
