The tunnels from Holland Park to Queensway (Central Line) and Archway to Kentish Town (Northern Line) will follow by the weekend.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The move to introduce <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/5g\">5G<\/a> on the previously <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/4g\">4G<\/a> network doesn&#8217;t come as a surprise, not least because it follows only a day after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/go\/eebroadband\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">EE<\/a> (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/go\/britishtelecom\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">BT<\/a>) announced an identical upgrade (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/2023\/02\/ee-uk-deploys-5g-mobile-broadband-on-london-underground.html\">here<\/a>), and we suspect <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/go\/threeuk\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">Three UK<\/a> will be the next to confirm. This is because all of the operators are sharing the same network platform from BAI Communications.<\/p>\n<p>At present, BAI holds a 20-year concession deal with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tfl.gov.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Transport for London<\/a> (TfL), which was signed in June 2021 (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/2021\/06\/london-underground-set-for-full-4g-mobile-coverage-by-2024.html\">here<\/a>) and allows them to build the new fibre-fed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/4g\">4G<\/a> and &#8220;<em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/5g\">5G<\/a> Ready<\/em>&#8221; infrastructure and to then make it available via wholesale for Mobile Network Operators (MNO) to harness. The goal of this is to cover the entire London Underground by late 2024 (ticket halls, platforms and tunnels).<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"bq1\"><p><strong>Andrea Dona, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/go\/vodafoneuk\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">Vodafone<\/a>\u2019s UK Chief Network Officer, said:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Our mission is to take connectivity everywhere and anywhere, so we are thrilled to switch on 5G connectivity on the London Underground network. Notting Hill Gate is only the latest step as we bring the benefits of our network to other platforms and tunnels across the Tube.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>We expect to see a fairly rapid expansion of the new mobile infrastructure on the London Underground this year, although it would be easier if all of the mobile operators were more synchronised in their announcements, but then they aren&#8217;t all at an identical stage of adoption.
