Consumer website Expert Reviews has published the winners of their annual “Best Broadband Awards 2023<\/em>” event, which has surveyed UK consumers in an effort to identify the best Internet Service Providers (ISP) across a range of categories. Much like last year, the overall winner was named as Plusnet<\/a>, again.<\/p>\n

As per usual, the results<\/a> were drawn from a YouGov survey of 4,664 UK adults, which was undertaken online between 17th and 19th January 2023. The figures have been weighted and are said to be representative of all UK adults (aged 18+). Respondents were then asked how likely they would be to recommend their broadband ISP to others and to rate its customer service, reliability, value and speed.<\/p>\n

NOTE:<\/strong> Only ISPs with more than 50 respondents were eligible for awards, which given the limited sample size effectively excluded smaller providers.<\/div>\n

BT<\/a>’s low-cost sibling ISP Plusnet<\/a> ended up stealing the show by winning four out of the six categories, including the main “OVERALL BEST PROVIDER<\/em>” award. Some 83% of the company\u2019s customers declared themselves happy with the reliability of the service, while 7 out of 10 said they were satisfied with the customer service. In addition, 78% said they were likely to recommend Plusnet<\/a>.<\/p>\n

However, the survey also revealed some wider industry issues, such as the fact that 43% of those surveyed had reported an increase in their broadband bills since signing up, yet 25% of broadband customers weren\u2019t aware that prices could increase. In addition, 9% said they\u2019d been assured that there wouldn\u2019t be any price rises for the whole of their contract.<\/p>\n

The good news for 2023 is that only 12% of respondents reported being dissatisfied with their provider’s customer service, while only 26% of those surveyed claim to be unlikely to recommend their service provider. There was, however, a much larger percentage of customers dissatisfied with Virgin Media<\/a>’s customer service, with 22% stating they were not satisfied (32% also said they were not likely to recommend the provider).<\/p>\n
