{"id":34175,"date":"2023-04-10T12:13:50","date_gmt":"2023-04-10T11:13:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/?p=34175"},"modified":"2023-04-11T01:50:17","modified_gmt":"2023-04-11T00:50:17","slug":"vodafone-uk-struck-by-easter-outage-of-fixed-home-broadband","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/2023\/04\/vodafone-uk-struck-by-easter-outage-of-fixed-home-broadband.html","title":{"rendered":"Vodafone UK Struck by Easter Outage of Fixed Home Broadband"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Customers of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/go\/vodafoneuk\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">Vodafone<\/a>&#8217;s fixed line broadband ISP, which is supplied to UK consumers via both <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/openreach\" target=\"_blank\">Openreach<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/cityfibre\" target=\"_blank\">CityFibre<\/a>&#8217;s respective networks (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/fttc\">FTTC<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/fttp\">FTTP<\/a> lines), appear to be suffering from an Easter service outage that began earlier this morning (around 8:30am ish for some people).<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The issue, which is currently still ongoing, has resulted in the following <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/VodafoneUK\/status\/1645366408698634241\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">statement<\/a> from the operator: &#8220;<em>We\u2019re aware of and investigating an issue impacting some of our home broadband customers since this morning. Getting our customers reconnected is now our top priority, and we\u2019re incredibly sorry for any inconvenience this is causing<\/em>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>At this time, we don&#8217;t know for sure if this is impacting both the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/openreach\" target=\"_blank\">Openreach<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/cityfibre\" target=\"_blank\">CityFibre<\/a> sides of their services, or if it&#8217;s more restricted. Interestingly, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/go\/vodafoneuk\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">Vodafone<\/a>&#8217;s router often still thinks it&#8217;s connected to broadband (suggesting a possible DNS or routing \/ peering problem), and that may prevent those with a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/4g\">4G<\/a> backup dongle (Pro) from benefitting from the operator&#8217;s failover system. In that case, we&#8217;d suggest physically unplugging the router from the fixed broadband line, thus allowing the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/4g\">4G<\/a> backup to kick into life.<\/p>\n<p>The outage follows only shortly after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/go\/vm\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">Virgin Media<\/a> suffered a major outage of its own, which appears to have been caused by a targeted DDoS attack.<\/p>\n<p><strong>UPDATE<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The outage has been resolved, although <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/go\/vodafoneuk\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">Vodafone<\/a> has yet to issue any details of what caused the incident or to explain why it took them so many hours to acknowledge that a major outage was even occurring.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Customers of Vodafone&#8217;s fixed line broadband ISP, which is supplied to UK consumers via both Openreach and CityFibre&#8217;s respective networks (FTTC and FTTP lines), appear to be suffering from an Easter service outage that began earlier this morning (around 8:30am ish for some people).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":31024,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"ngg_post_thumbnail":0,"footnotes":""},"categories":[1],"tags":[418,55,56,69,96],"class_list":["post-34175","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-uk_isp_news","tag-cityfibre","tag-fttc","tag-fttp","tag-bt-openreach","tag-vodafone"],"share_on_mastodon":{"url":"","error":""},"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v28.6 -
