{"id":3445,"date":"2013-06-06T12:51:26","date_gmt":"2013-06-06T11:51:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/?p=3445"},"modified":"2013-06-06T12:51:26","modified_gmt":"2013-06-06T11:51:26","slug":"at800-tv-predict-just-90k-uk-homes-to-lose-tv-due-to-4g-interference","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/2013\/06\/at800-tv-predict-just-90k-uk-homes-to-lose-tv-due-to-4g-interference.html","title":{"rendered":"at800.tv Predict Just 90k UK Homes to Lose TV Due to 4G Interference"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Following a number of trials <a href=\"http:\/\/at800.tv\" target=\"_blank\">at800.tv<\/a> (DMSL), which is funded by \u00a3180m from mobile network operators, has predicted that just 90,000 homes in the United Kingdom will see their Digital Terrestrial TV (DTTV) services being disrupted by the new generation of <a class=\"shortlink shortlink-116 shortlink-chref\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/4g\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"\" title=\"4g\" data-chref=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/broadband_mobile.php\">4G<\/a> based Mobile Broadband services in the 800MHz band.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The prediction, which is well below <a class=\"shortlink shortlink-133 shortlink-chref\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/ofcom\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"\" title=\"ofcom\" data-chref=\"https:\/\/www.ofcom.org.uk\">Ofcom<\/a>&#8217;s <strong>original estimate of 900,000<\/strong> households (i.e. those where terrestrial TV services are used as the \u201c<em>primary viewing<\/em>\u201d method), follows several recent reports in which at800.tv noted that its trials had shown significantly fewer reception problems than first predicted (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/2013\/05\/london-uk-tests-find-fears-of-4g-knocking-out-tv-signals-are-overblown.html\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>In other words <strong>less than 1% of UK households<\/strong> are likely to need a <strong>special filter<\/strong> to remove the interference from <a class=\"shortlink shortlink-116 shortlink-chref\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/4g\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"\" title=\"4g\" data-chref=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/broadband_mobile.php\">4G<\/a>, which will no doubt come as good news to country&#8217;s various mobile operators and TV broadcasters. On the other hand the filter manufactures may be feeling somewhat less pleased.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"bq1\"><p><strong>at800.tv Statement<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>at800 has now sent postcards to households in London and the surrounding areas in preparation for the activation of 4G at 800 MHz masts over the coming weeks and months. at800 is also sending postcards to other areas of the UK ahead of masts switching on. at800\u2019s mailing does not mean that 4G services will be available to consumers. For information about the availability of 4G services, people should contact their mobile operators.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>In London, in particular, Freeview received from the Crystal Palace transmitter is unlikely to be affected by mast activation because of the strong terrestrial television signal and its relatively large frequency separation from 4G at 800 MHz.
