Alternative UK network provider Connect Fibre<\/a> (Fibre Assets Ltd.) has just struck back in the tit-for-tat battle over which broadband ISP can claim to offer the “fastest<\/em>” or “best<\/em>” Wi-Fi performance guarantee. The provider has increased the speed promise on their home Wi-Fi guarantee from 30Mbps to 50Mbps minimum in every room.<\/p>\n

Firstly, let’s recap recent events. Back in September 2022 Virgin Media<\/a> (VMO2) made headlines (here<\/a>) by claiming to deliver the \u201cUK\u2019s Fastest WiFi<\/a> Guarantee<\/em>\u201d (with a 20Mbps minimum speed) in \u201cevery room or money back.<\/em>\u201d But this ignored the fact that alternative network operator Connect Fibre<\/strong><\/a> had, in June 2022, already made a similar claim by promising a minimum speed of 30 Mbps in every room (here<\/a>) – this also cost \u00a38 extra.<\/p>\n

NOTE:<\/strong> Connect Fibre<\/a>’s XGS-PON (ADTRAN) powered full fibre network is backed by Foresight Group<\/strong> (here<\/a>) and is deploying across a number of locations in Cambridgeshire, Derbyshire, Essex, Nottinghamshire and Yorkshire.<\/div>\n

This month saw Sky Broadband<\/a> respond by launching the \u201cUK\u2019s fastest WiFi<\/a> guarantee, of any major provider<\/em>\u201d with their \u201cWiFi Max\u2019s speed guarantee of up to 25mps in every room<\/em>\u201d for an extra \u00a310 per month (here<\/a>). But Virgin Media<\/a> quickly responded (here<\/a>) by boosting their own guarantee from 20Mbps to 30Mbps at no extra cost (i.e. a minimum download speed of 30Mbps via WiFi in every room, or you get \u00a3100 back) and repeating the “UK\u2019s fastest WiFi guarantee<\/em>” claim – without needing any new kit.<\/span><\/p>\n

Connect Fibre<\/a>’s move to claim or reclaim the “UK\u2019s best home Wi-Fi guarantee<\/em>” – with a 50Mbps minimum speed – technically means that Virgin Media can’t use the “fastest<\/em>” claim. But as we’ve said before, the caveat here is that CF’s network is only available to a very small area, and they aspire to reach 100,000 premises across the East of England with their gigabit-capable FTTP<\/a> network.. at some point.<\/p>\n

Stefan Stanislawski, CEO of Connect Fibre, said:<\/strong><\/p>\n

“We are already the most loved broadband provider in our areas, and our customers rate us for providing the fastest broadband possible, with up to 900Mbps guaranteed. They also love that they can get Hyperfast speeds over Wi-Fi. With many customers experiencing Connect Mesh speeds well in excess of 50Mbps, with speeds of over 700Mbps regularly cited, we expect to increase guarantees even more in the future.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The provider said their guarantee includes a Wi-Fi survey for all customers to help them find the optimal position of equipment and their latest Wi-Fi 6 routers and mesh kit, although the actual guarantee is admittedly a bit weak. Essentially, if you don\u2019t get 50Mbps in every room, then you can return the extra nodes and the provider will only refund your last Connect Mesh payment.<\/p>\n

Otherwise, CF’s residential broadband packages tend to start from \u00a325 per month for a symmetric speed 50Mbps plan (inc. free setup and a WiFi 6 router), which rises to \u00a345 for their top 1000Mbps tier and a promise of \u201cno mid-contract price increases<\/em>\u201c. Plus, there\u2019s a 50Mbps social tariff for those on state benefits at \u00a320 per month.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
