Network builder and UK broadband ISP toob<\/a><\/a> has today announced that they’ve committed \u00a37.5 million to build their new Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP<\/a>) network across the Hampshire (South England) town of Fleet, which is expected to result in 19,000 local homes gaining access to their network.<\/p>\n

The operator, which was originally backed by \u00a375m<\/strong> from the Amber Infrastructure Group (here<\/a>) and \u201cup to<\/em>\u201d \u00a387.5m<\/strong> from the Sequoia Economic Infrastructure Income Fund (here<\/a>), recently secured \u00a3160m of additional funding (debt financing) from Ares Management<\/strong>\u2018s Infrastructure Debt strategy (here<\/a>) – this can be upsized up to \u00a3300m<\/strong> over time to support future growth opportunities.<\/p>\n

NOTE:<\/strong> Toob<\/a><\/a>\u2019s own FTTP<\/a> build already covers 140,000 premises (not all are Ready for Service) and they have 20,000 customers (c. 95% on their own network). The operator aims to cover 1 million premises across the South of England by 2027.<\/div>\n

Construction on the new network in Fleet is planned to begin within the “coming weeks<\/em>” and customers can expect it to start going live sometime in 2024. On the surface this deployment looks like a fairly decent bet because Virgin Media<\/a> (VMO2) are the only gigabit-capable network operator with any significant coverage and, for some reason, not even Openreach<\/a> currently have plans to expand FTTP further into the area.<\/p>\n

However, F&W Networks have been spotted building into the central part of the town, which does suggest that Fleet’s choice of gigabit-capable services may be set to expand.<\/p>\n
