{"id":35329,"date":"2023-08-03T13:21:56","date_gmt":"2023-08-03T12:21:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/?p=35329"},"modified":"2023-08-03T13:21:56","modified_gmt":"2023-08-03T12:21:56","slug":"administrators-report-updates-on-future-of-broadway-partners","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/2023\/08\/administrators-report-updates-on-future-of-broadway-partners.html","title":{"rendered":"Administrators Report Updates on Future of Broadway Partners"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The administrators for troubled UK network operator <a href=\"https:\/\/www.broadwaypartners.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Broadway Partners<\/a> (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.broadwaybroadband.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Broadway Broadband<\/a>), which had been building fixed wireless and full fibre (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/fttp\">FTTP<\/a>) ISP networks across rural parts of Scotland and Wales, have published their first report and revealed that several interested parties have bid for the business.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Just to recap. Broadway \u2013 supported by a major investment of \u00a3145m from London-based sustainable investment manager <strong>Downing LLP <\/strong>(<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/2021\/10\/broadway-partners-get-gbp145m-for-uk-rollout-of-gigabit-fibre.html\">here<\/a>) \u2013 was ultimately aiming to cover 250,000 premises with its new full fibre network by around 2028. But so far most of the builds have only been focused upon smaller rural communities across different parts of Wales and Scotland (e.g. Isle of Arran, Pembrokeshire, Monmouthshire and Powys).<\/p>\n<div class=\"bq2\"><strong>NOTE:<\/strong> Only around 20% (\u00a329m) of the \u00a3145m figure above has so far been invested \/ drawn.<\/div>\n<p>However, alternative network providers across the market have recently been feeling a lot of strain, particularly from rising costs \/ inflation (build, leases etc.), aggressive competition from rivals (e.g. overbuild) and the related need to secure a viable level of take-up by consumers. As a result, we&#8217;ve recently had to cover quite a few news stories about redundancies and slowing network builds.<\/p>\n<p>The same appeared to be true of Broadway after the company announced, in May 2023, that it had officially appointed <strong>Teneo Financial Advisory<\/strong> as its administrator (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/2023\/05\/full-fibre-uk-altnet-broadway-partners-calls-in-administrators.html\">here<\/a>). <strong>Benji Dymant<\/strong>, Joint Administrator at Teneo, confirmed all this when he said that the provider had been &#8220;<em>facing &#8230; a number of adverse macroeconomic issues, including raising interest rates and inflation, in a highly competitive environment.<\/em>&#8220;<strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #339966;\"><strong>Administrators Report<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>The first <a href=\"https:\/\/find-and-update.company-information.service.gov.uk\/company\/07702073\/filing-history\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">administrator&#8217;s report<\/a> has now been published and represents somewhat of a progress update, albeit one without a firm conclusion. The report notes that Broadway services over 11,000 homes and over 7,500 Ready for Service (RFS) fibre connections, with c.1,000 fibre customers and c.1,000 wireless customers. But it became apparent at the end of May 2023 that &#8220;<em>the Group would be unable to pay its debts once they fell due<\/em>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;<em>Despite having successfully connected a range of outlying communities to its network, BPL struggled in the face of adverse market conditions. This resulted in a slow-down in their ability to build new connections and secure the customer base needed to satisfy the milestones and continue to drawdown on its debt facilities<\/em>,&#8221; said the administrator.<\/p>\n<p>According to the report, there is currently also &#8220;<em>no prospect of any funds being returned to unsecured creditors of either the Company or the LLP<\/em>&#8220;, and, in respect of that \u00a329m mentioned above, they &#8220;<em>do not anticipate there will be sufficient asset realisations to repay the Secured Creditor in full from either fixed or floating charge realisations<\/em>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<div class=\"bq2\"><strong>NOTE:<\/strong> In Jan 2022, Broadway Fibres LLP (BFL) was incorporated to facilitate a transfer of network fibre assets from BPL to BFL &#8220;<em>for tax purposes<\/em>&#8220;. BPL continued to hold all the customer contracts, property leases, employs all employees and holds supplier and contractor agreements. BPL and BFL together form the &#8216;Group&#8217;.<\/div>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"ngg-singlepic ngg-none\" style=\"padding: 0px; width: 100%;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/wp-content\/gallery\/2023-article-illustrations\/BPL-Financials.png\" alt=\"BPL-Financials\"><\/p>\n<p>Prior to administration, the company had employed 119 staff, but 72 were made redundant immediately upon the administration. In terms of the sale process, Teneo said that 27 out of 58 parties initially identified as having an interest in the sale were invited to take part.
