{"id":35430,"date":"2023-08-16T09:42:11","date_gmt":"2023-08-16T08:42:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/?p=35430"},"modified":"2023-08-16T09:42:11","modified_gmt":"2023-08-16T08:42:11","slug":"ms3-works-to-offset-carbon-footprint-of-uk-broadband-network","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/2023\/08\/ms3-works-to-offset-carbon-footprint-of-uk-broadband-network.html","title":{"rendered":"MS3 Works to Offset Carbon Footprint of UK Broadband Network"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Hull-based network builder <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ms3networks.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">MS3<\/a>, which is working to roll out a 10Gbps capable full fibre (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/fttp\">FTTP<\/a>) broadband ISP network to cover 500,000 premises across the North of England by the end of 2025 (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/2021\/11\/ms3-plan-10gb-broadband-for-500000-premises-in-north-england.html\">here<\/a>), has today announced a partnership with <a href=\"https:\/\/carbonneutralbritain.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Carbon Neutral Britain<\/a> (CNB) to help them &#8220;<em>offset their carbon footprints<\/em>&#8220;.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>In order to establish the amount of carbon to be offset, CNB spent time measuring <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/ms3\" target=\"_blank\">MS3<\/a>\u2019s carbon emissions through a carbon audit, completed via the ISO 14064 and GHG Emissions Protocol Accounting standards. Then, in alignment with science-based targets and UK Government sustainability goals for carbon reduction, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/ms3\" target=\"_blank\">MS3<\/a> implemented a reduction plan that sets out a roadmap to reduce its emissions and ultimately become <strong>Net Zero<\/strong> (i.e. removing as many carbon emissions as they produce).<\/p>\n<div class=\"bq2\"><strong>NOTE:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/ms3\" target=\"_blank\">MS3<\/a> &#8211; backed by investment from Asterion &#8211; is currently building across parts of <strong>Lincolnshire<\/strong> and <strong>Yorkshire<\/strong>. Some 100,000 premises have already been covered (not all RFS).<\/div>\n<p>The operator has now moved to offset its carbon production by investing in two carbon offsetting projects \u2014 the <strong>Climate Fund<\/strong>&#x2122; and <strong>Woodland Fund<\/strong>&#x2122; &#8211; both are regulated through the Verified Carbon Standard (VCS), the Voluntary Emission Reductions (VER), and the UN&#8217;s &#8211; Certified Emission Reductions (CER) programmes.<\/p>\n<p>The Climate Fund&#x2122; focuses on supporting renewable projects worldwide, including wind, solar and hydro initiatives. Meanwhile, the Woodland Fund&#x2122; supports reforestation and woodland management projects.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"bq1\"><p><strong>Rachel Brooks, Compliance Officer (ESG) at MS3, said:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;At MS3 Networks, we recognise that all businesses have a responsibility to protect the environment and build a sustainable future. Partnering with Carbon Neutral Britain and achieving certification as a Carbon Neutral Business is a significant milestone for us in the path towards net zero.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Despite the positives, it&#8217;s worth noting that the announcement doesn&#8217;t actually state a date for when they aim to achieve Net Zero.
