Network builder and UK gigabit broadband ISP toob<\/a> has today announced that their \u00a318m project to roll out a new Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP<\/a>) network across the Hampshire (England) town of Gosport, which will eventually reach 45,000 premises in 2024, has finally started to go live.<\/p>\n

The announcement doesn’t mention where in the town their service has gone live, although we note that Gosport is already well covered by Virgin Media<\/a>’s (VMO2) gigabit-capable network and Openreach<\/a> are also in the process of deploying a fair bit of FTTP<\/a>. On top of that, Hyperoptic<\/a> has a small amount of coverage. Otherwise, most of toob<\/a>’s build activity is currently focused on the large area west of Walpole Park.<\/p>\n

NOTE:<\/strong> Toob<\/a>\u2019s fibre already covers 150,000 premises (not all are Ready for Service) and they have 20,000 customers (c. 95% on their own network). The operator aims to cover 1 million premises across the South of England by 2027 (Dorset, Hampshire, Surrey etc.).<\/div>\n

The operator, which was originally backed by \u00a375m<\/strong> from the Amber Infrastructure Group (here<\/a>) and \u201cup to<\/em>\u201d \u00a387.5m<\/strong> from the Sequoia Economic Infrastructure Income Fund (here<\/a>), recently secured \u00a3160m of additional funding (debt financing) from Ares Management<\/strong>\u2018s Infrastructure Debt strategy (here<\/a>) \u2013 this can be upsized up to \u00a3300m<\/strong> over time to support future growth opportunities.<\/p>\n

Nick Parbutt, CEO of toob, said:<\/strong><\/p>\n

Customers will benefit from speeds of 900 Mbps for only \u00a325 per month on an 18 month contract, with no in-contract price rises. They can rely on toob to provide broadband that simply works.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Customers of the service typically pay just \u00a325 per month on an 18-month term for their 900Mbps (symmetric speed) package (\u00a329 thereafter), which includes a router, unlimited usage, free installation and a pledge of \u201cno in-contract price rises\u201c.<\/p>\n
