Digital infrastructure firm Boldyn Networks<\/a> (formerly BAI Comms) has announced that they’re working with the Greater London Authority (GLA), Virgin Media<\/a> and Transport for London (TfL) to deploy a new “high-speed<\/em>” full fibre network across the Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames.<\/p>\n

The new network is intended to provide vital connectivity to 41 CCTV (camera) locations<\/strong> across the borough, which will record higher quality and more reliable images (i.e. deterrence of criminal and anti-social behaviour<\/span>) – enabling the output to be used as evidence in court. The work will also complement their existing project with Kingston Council<\/strong> to deploy smart columns to boost mobile broadband (4G<\/a> and 5G<\/a>) connectivity, improve council services and enhance public safety.<\/p>\n

NOTE:<\/strong> The smart columns build forms part of the government’s Smart Infrastructure Pilots Programme<\/strong> (here<\/a> and here<\/a>) to support the delivery of the government\u2019s UK Wireless Infrastructure Strategy.<\/div>\n

The network has been installed alongside delivery partner Virgin Media<\/a>. The project was funded by the GLA, via TfL and it forms part of the wider Mayor of London\u2019s Connected London programme, to improve digital connectivity across London boroughs and build the foundations for smart city applications (i.e. new sensors to monitor air quality, traffic congestion and supporting councils to enhance public safety).<\/p>\n

The announcement doesn’t contain much information on the network itself, but we assume this reflects their previously announced plan to install a 10.4km<\/strong> long fibre ring across the borough.<\/p>\n

This follows the recent installation of a high-speed full fibre network in the borough of Sutton (here<\/a>).
