UK ISP Sky Broadband<\/a> will later this morning launch a new 100Mbps “Full Fibr<\/em>e” plan to complement their existing packages, although it appears to be priced at the same level as their existing 145Mbps tier – this may raise a question mark over what that means for the existing package.<\/p>\n

At present new customers to Sky Broadband<\/a> -those who follow our links in this article – can take Sky’s 61Mbps plan for \u00a325 per month on an 18-month term (\u00a339.50 thereafter), which rises to \u00a329 for 145Mbps (\u00a343 thereafter), \u00a334 for 500Mbps (\u00a353 thereafter) and \u00a348 for their top 900Mbps \u201cGigafast\u201d tier (\u00a363 thereafter). A small \u00a35 one-off setup fee is also charged.<\/p>\n

NOTE:<\/strong> Sky’s Full Fibre plans are powered by Openreach<\/a>’s national FTTP<\/a> network, which currently covers 11.5 million UK premises (inc. 3.7m in the hardest to reach rural areas).<\/div>\n

However, the above prices are part of a special promotion, and the standard offer price on their 145Mbps tier is normally a bit higher at \u00a338 per month (\u00a343 after 18 months). The issue here is we’ve been informed that Sky’s new 100Mbps tier<\/strong><\/a> is also due to be priced at \u00a338 per month for the first 18 months (\u00a343 thereafter). We’re currently unsure what this means for their 145Mbps tier, although we’ll update again once we know more.<\/p>\n

The details we’ve seen don’t clarify what upload speed the new plan will offer, although it’s most likely to be based on either Openreach<\/a>’s 110Mbps (15Mbps upload) or 115Mbps (20Mbps upload) tiers. Otherwise, Sky\u2019s packages all include their \u201cWall to Wall WiFi<\/a> Guarantee<\/em>\u201c, an included wireless router, unlimited usage, a pay as you go phone service (IP based) and a minimum speed guarantee.<\/p>\n

Customers can optionally add a WiFi<\/a> 6E capable router and mesh system for an extra \u00a37.50 a month for 18 months, while various inclusive calling options are also available (e.g. evening and weekend calls for \u00a35.75 a month).<\/p>\n

UPDATE 2:11pm<\/strong><\/p>\n

The new plan is online and this confirms that their existing 145Mbps package remains, and at the same base price as 100Mbps. In fact, the 145Mbps tier is currently discounted, which actually makes it cheaper than their 100Mbps tier at full price for the first 18-months of service.
