Mobile network operator giffgaff<\/a> has today launched a cheaper 18-month “Good Contract<\/em>” unlimited data (mobile broadband) tariff, which is now available for only \u00a325 per month (previously \u00a335). The update also benefits more than 12,000 existing customers on the old plan, automatically reducing their bills by \u00a310 a month.<\/p>\n

The new plan includes all of the usual features, such as 5G<\/a> speeds at no extra cost, unlimited UK calls and texts, inclusive EU roaming (data limit of up to 5GB and 10p\/MB thereafter) and the ability to switch your monthly plan up or down whenever you need, without affecting your contract length. The new plan also supports giffgaff<\/a>\u2019s ongoing commitment to no mid-contract price rises.<\/p>\n

NOTE:<\/strong> Giffgaff<\/a> is a virtual mobile operator (MVNO) on O2<\/a>\u2019s (VMO2) national UK infrastructure.<\/div>\n

Ash Schofield, CEO of giffgaff, said: \u201cWhile many other network providers will be increasing customers’ bills with mid-contract price rises, we\u2019re actively improving our contract prices for our customers and saving them money. We\u2018re proud to be offering our customers certainty on the cost of their mobile contract<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n

However, it is worth noting that they caveat the “unlimited data<\/em>” claim with mention of a Fair Usage Policy<\/strong><\/a> (FUP), which warns customers to “avoid regularly tethering to 12 or more devices or regularly using unreasonably large amounts of data, including but not limited using around 650GB<\/strong> of data twice within a 6-month period<\/em>.”<\/p>\n

Customers who go above this FUP level are warned about possible network controls (reduced speed), plan downgrades or even service suspensions. But this is largely a soft warning as if they were to act then the Advertising Standards Authority<\/a> (ASA) might stop them using “unlimited<\/em>” terminology.<\/p>\n

Finally, it’s worth noting that \u00a325 per month isn’t as cheap as the \u00a316 unlimited data plans from Smarty<\/a>, iD Mobile<\/a> and others.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
