The only good news is that their packages are still fairly competitive.<br \/>\n<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The operator, which also owns <a href=\"https:\/\/www.boxbroadband.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Box Broadband<\/a> \u2013 a similar network that targets Surrey and West Sussex in England (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/2021\/08\/communityfibre-expands-uk-reach-with-box-broadband-gobble.html\">here<\/a>), has already rolled out their network to cover 1 million homes and 212,000 businesses in London by the end of July 2023 (we haven\u2019t had any recent updates). CF were originally then aiming to reach 2.2m premises by the end of 2024, but that was before last year\u2019s job cuts and build pause hit (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/2023\/11\/london-full-fibre-isp-community-fibre-to-cut-jobs-and-pause-build.html\">here<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, CF also adopts a similar pricing policy to that of the major ISPs (except <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/go\/bskyb\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">Sky Broadband<\/a>), which means that &#8220;<em>from 1st April every year we will increase the price of our services by up to the Government published Consumer Price Index (CPI) from January of the same year plus 2.9%<\/em>&#8221; (most of the major providers add +3.9% to the CPI rate, rather than +2.9%). The published CPI rate in January was 4% (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/2024\/01\/jan-2024-inflation-figures-reveal-uk-broadband-isp-price-hikes.html\">here<\/a>), which means that CF&#8217;s average price increase will be 6.9%.<\/p>\n<p>The provider naturally blames the cost increase on the impact of rising inflation. But the good news is that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/ofcom\" target=\"_blank\">Ofcom<\/a> recently moved to ban mid-contract hikes that are linked to either inflation or percentage-based price rises (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/2023\/12\/ofcom-uk-ban-some-mid-contract-broadband-and-mobile-price-hikes.html\">here<\/a>), although this change won\u2019t arrive in time to impact this year\u2019s hikes \u2013 they&#8217;re expected to be introduced from late 2024.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/ofcom\" target=\"_blank\">Ofcom<\/a> will instead require providers to tell customers precisely what any such hikes will be when they sign up (\u201c<em>in pounds and pence<\/em>\u201c), which rules out changes linked to unknown future inflation values or percentages. In theory, this should help to make future pricing clearer, although prices \u2013 at least among the biggest providers \u2013 will still rise (it won\u2019t stop mid-contract hikes completely).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #339966;\"><strong>Copy of Community Fibre&#8217;s Customer Letter<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n(<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/talk\/threads\/mid-contract-price-increase-email.41388\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">credits to GreenLantern22<\/a>)<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"ngg-singlepic ngg-none\" style=\"padding: 0px; width: 100%;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/wp-content\/gallery\/2024-article-illustrations\/Community-Fibre-Price-Increase-Letter-2024.webp\" alt=\"Community-Fibre-Price-Increase-Letter-2024\"><\/p>\n<p>The chances are fairly good that, given CF&#8217;s often faster and more affordable full fibre broadband packages, existing customers will probably opt to remain with the ISP rather than switch away. In fairness, CF has done a pretty good job of keeping their prices down over the past few years, although that started to change at the end of 2021, after they dropped their original promise of &#8220;<em>NO mid-contract price hikes<\/em>&#8221; (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/2021\/12\/full-fibre-isp-communityfibre-drop-promise-of-no-mid-contract-price-hikes.html\">here<\/a>).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Network operator and UK ISP CommunityFibre, which has deployed a 10Gbps capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband network across a big chunk of London, has sadly just begun informing existing customers about a new round of annual price increases.
