{"id":38858,"date":"2024-07-26T09:10:09","date_gmt":"2024-07-26T08:10:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/?p=38858"},"modified":"2024-07-26T09:13:21","modified_gmt":"2024-07-26T08:13:21","slug":"nexfibre-publish-q2-2024-uk-full-fibre-broadband-rollout-update","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/2024\/07\/nexfibre-publish-q2-2024-uk-full-fibre-broadband-rollout-update.html","title":{"rendered":"Nexfibre Publish Q2 2024 UK Full Fibre Broadband Rollout Update"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Network operator <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/nexfibre\" target=\"_blank\">nexfibre<\/a>, which shares some of their parentage with retail ISP partner <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/go\/vm\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">Virgin Media<\/a> (VMO2), has this morning published their latest quarterly (Q2 2024) progress update on the roll-out of their new 10Gbps capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/fttp\">FTTP<\/a> \/ XGS-PON) broadband ISP network. This includes details on build locations for 2025 and early 2026.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;ll start with the usual recap. Back in 2022 Telef\u00f3nica, Liberty Global and InfraVia Capital Partners setup <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/nexfibre\" target=\"_blank\">nexfibre<\/a> as a new \u00a34.5bn joint venture (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/2022\/07\/virgin-media-o2-parents-form-joint-venture-to-build-new-uk-fibre-network.html\">here<\/a>), which aims to deploy an open access full fibre network to reach \u201c<em>up to<\/em>\u201d 7 million UK homes (starting with 5m by 2026) in areas NOT served by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/go\/vm\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">Virgin Media<\/a>\u2019s own network of 16m+ premises. The funding reflects \u00a33.3bn of fully underwritten financing and up to \u00a31.4bn in equity commitments.<\/p>\n<div class=\"bq2\"><strong>NOTE:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/go\/vm\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">Virgin Media<\/a> is currently the only ISP on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/nexfibre\" target=\"_blank\">nexfibre<\/a>\u2019s network via an \u201c<em>exclusive partnership\u201d<\/em> (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/2023\/06\/virgin-media-o2-uk-start-selling-xgs-pon-powered-fttp-broadband.html\">here<\/a>), but more ISPs will be added in the future (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/2024\/02\/nexfibre-pledge-to-build-more-uk-full-fibre-in-2024-than-any-altnet.html\">here<\/a>) and VM&#8217;s own network will also open up to wholesale via <strong>NetCo<\/strong> in H1 2025 (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/2024\/02\/virgin-media-o2-takes-uk-fibre-broadband-network-wholesale.html\">here<\/a>).<\/div>\n<p>The operator has already deployed their network to cover <strong>1,277,800 premises<\/strong> &#8216;Ready for Service&#8217; (up from 986,000 in the last update), which doesn\u2019t yet include last year\u2019s acquisition of Upp and its c.175,000 premises, and they\u2019re in the process of investing another \u00a31bn this year to help cover an additional 1 million UK premises (i.e. on top of their existing coverage). This should get them to around c.2m by the end of 2024.<\/p>\n<p>The latest report also reveals planned build locations for 2025 and early 2026, with a &#8220;<em>significantly expanded footprint<\/em>&#8221; being planned for previously underserved areas of North Wales and Scotland. The next stage will also see &#8220;<em>high volumes of build<\/em>&#8221; in Eastbourne, Weymouth and Nantwich.<\/p>\n<p>Sadly, nexfibre doesn\u2019t provide a neat spreadsheet style table to highlight new additions to their build plan (at least not one we can easily paste), although they do provide something similar via their latest <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nexfibre.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/nexfibre-Q2-2024-rollout-report.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Q2 2024 Rollout Update<\/strong><\/a> (PDF) and there&#8217;s also a fairly vague visual map of their progress.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #339966;\"><strong>Nexfibre UK Build Update Map for Q2 2024<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"ngg-singlepic ngg-none\" style=\"padding: 0px; width: 100%;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/wp-content\/gallery\/2024-article-illustrations\/Nexfibre-Q2-2024-FTTP-Build-UK-Progress-Map.webp\" alt=\"Nexfibre-Q2-2024-FTTP-Build-UK-Progress-Map\"><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"bq1\"><p><strong>Rajiv Datta, CEO of nexfibre, said:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is thanks to the hard work of our team, our partners \u2013 including our build partner Virgin Media <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/go\/o2uk\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">O2<\/a> \u2013 and our investors that we have been able to build at this pace and achieve this reach in such a short period of time.<\/p>\n<p>We have exciting plans for 2025 and into 2026, which is part of our commitment to provide a nationwide alternative network and the competition in the fibre access market that the UK needs and deserves.
