{"id":39595,"date":"2024-10-02T16:39:07","date_gmt":"2024-10-02T15:39:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/?p=39595"},"modified":"2024-10-02T16:39:07","modified_gmt":"2024-10-02T15:39:07","slug":"broadband-isp-onestream-bemoans-poor-ots-consumer-switching-rate","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/2024\/10\/broadband-isp-onestream-bemoans-poor-ots-consumer-switching-rate.html","title":{"rendered":"Broadband ISP Onestream Bemoans Poor OTS Consumer Switching Rate"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Hampshire-based UK ISP <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/go\/onestream\" target=\"_blank\">Onestream<\/a>, which sells broadband packages using <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/openreach\" target=\"_blank\">Openreach<\/a>\u2019s national full fibre network, has complained about the poor performance of the new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/2024\/09\/ofcom-launch-easier-one-touch-switching-for-uk-broadband-isps.html\"><strong>One Touch Switching<\/strong><\/a> (OTS) system, which aims to make it easier for consumers to change ISP. But this is currently failing on 56% of requests to join the provider.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The OTS system, which is being introduced via the industry-led <a href=\"https:\/\/totsco.org.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>One Touch Switching Company<\/strong><\/a> (TOTSCo), finally went live last month. But <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/ofcom\" target=\"_blank\">Ofcom<\/a> promptly acknowledged that TOTSCo\u2019s industry-led messaging platform still needed to improve the success rate of its \u201c<em>matching process<\/em>\u201d (i.e. ensuring that customer switches are correctly verified and migrated between providers) and, as a result of that, they opted to temporarily retain the old migration process (Notification of Transfer \/ NoT+) \u2013 until <strong>24th October 2024<\/strong> \u2013 to act as a fallback for OTS failures.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/ofcom\" target=\"_blank\">Ofcom<\/a> recently drafted in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.offta.org.uk\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Telecoms Adjudicator<\/a> (OTA) to help \u201c<em>coordinate and facilitate industry efforts<\/em>&#8220;, not least by helping to identify the sources of the remaining issues and get them resolved before the deadline (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/2024\/09\/ofcom-tells-uk-telecoms-adjudicator-to-help-fix-ots-broadband-isp-switching.html\">here<\/a>). The situation with the matching process is gradually improving (<a href=\"https:\/\/totsco.org.uk\/help-engagement\/totsco-industry-trials-results-summary\/\">here<\/a>), but it remains unclear whether the issues will be fully resolved by 24th.<\/p>\n<p>The problems have been underlined again today after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/go\/onestream\" target=\"_blank\">Onestream<\/a> revealed their dissatisfaction with the fact that 56% of switch requests (where <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/go\/onestream\" target=\"_blank\">Onestream<\/a> is the gaining provider) are currently going unmatched.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"bq1\"><p><strong>Aaron Brown, Co-founder of Onestream, told ISPreview:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re huge advocates of consumer choice \u2013 everyone should be able to easily switch to the provider they believe provides the right coverage, reliability, customer service, speed and value.<\/p>\n<p>Ahead of the launch of OTS, our dedicated team worked hard on a detailed plan, flawlessly rolled out, to ensure all our systems were tested and worked with OTS from day one. We\u2019re proud to have been among the first to join the platform and have already used it to enable the smooth and swift transfer of customers to Onestream.<\/p>\n<p>However, we\u2019re disappointed that for 56% of requests to join Onestream, we have failed to find a match for the losing provider via OTS. This suggests to us that a significant number of connection providers are dragging their heels.<\/p>\n<p>We would urge them to get their act together because at the moment, the system isn\u2019t delivering what it promised and customers are losing out.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>In fairness, the problem isn&#8217;t just being caused by rival connection providers, but also by bugs and other issues (e.g. a lack of clear standards in certain areas) that exist within the current messaging platform.
