{"id":40277,"date":"2024-12-06T00:01:35","date_gmt":"2024-12-06T00:01:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/?p=40277"},"modified":"2024-12-05T13:16:57","modified_gmt":"2024-12-05T13:16:57","slug":"hiya-uk-residents-receive-4-spam-calls-per-person-each-month","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/2024\/12\/hiya-uk-residents-receive-4-spam-calls-per-person-each-month.html","title":{"rendered":"Hiya &#8211; UK Residents Receive 4 SPAM Calls Per Person Each Month"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The latest Q3 2024 Global Call Threat Report from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hiya.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Hiya<\/a>, which also works with broadband ISPs and mobile operators (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/go\/britishtelecom\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">BT<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/go\/eebroadband\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">EE<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/go\/o2uk\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">O2<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/go\/vm\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">Virgin Media<\/a> etc.) to help detect and block SPAM and fraud calls, has revealed that residents of the UK receive 4 spam calls per person each month (up from 3 spam calls last quarter) &#8211; albeit one of the lowest rates in Europe.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Overall, the latest report found that 3% of all UK calls were classified as \u201c<em>fraud calls<\/em>\u201d (unchanged from Q2), while 25% were \u201c<em>nuisance calls<\/em>\u201d (unchanged) and the remaining 72% reflected all other (normal) calls \u2013 this reflects a spam flag rate of 28% (unchanged). Generally, fewer spam\/scam calls are making it past the network-level filtering systems being adopted by various phone providers, but they aren&#8217;t perfect and not everybody uses them.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"ngg-singlepic ngg-none\" style=\"padding: 0px; width: 100%;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/wp-content\/gallery\/2024-uk-internet-statistics\/Hiya-Spam-and-Fraud-Calls-in-Europe-Q3-2024.webp\" alt=\"Hiya-Spam-and-Fraud-Calls-in-Europe-Q3-2024\"><\/p>\n<p>The top sources of scam calls in Q3 2024 once again came from <strong>HM Revenue &amp; Customs<\/strong> (HMRC) impersonators, which was followed by those trying to impersonate <strong><a class=\"shortlink shortlink-137 shortlink-chref\" title=\"amazon\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/go\/amazon\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" data-chref=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.co.uk\">Amazon<\/a><\/strong> and <strong>Credit Card <\/strong>companies (i.e. Visa and Mastercard). Hiya also revealed that Brits are concerned about the advent of AI-generated deepfakes. In the company&#8217;s survey of more than 2,000 British citizens, some 18% said they had experienced an audio deepfake.
