Streetwave have spent the past year harnessing waste (bin \/ refuse) collection lorries to map mobile network \/ broadband coverage and speeds in various parts of the UK, particularly Wales (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/2024\/07\/study-finds-no-mobile-operator-in-powys-surpasses-50-for-good-coverage.html\">here<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/2024\/07\/streetwave-maps-mobile-network-speeds-in-caerphilly-using-bin-lorries.html\">here<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/2024\/06\/rubbish-trucks-to-help-map-4g-mobile-coverage-in-mid-wales.html\">here<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/2024\/07\/vodafone-uk-mobile-cover-improved-in-northumberland-after-3g-closure.html\">here<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/2024\/08\/study-reveals-state-of-mobile-network-coverage-in-ceredigion-wales.html\">here<\/a>). In this setup, refuse trucks are installed with several off-the-shelf Smartphones using software from Streetwave on top, which run continuous network tests (once every 20 metres in rural areas and 5m in urban areas) as the vehicles go around their routes.<\/p>\n<div class=\"bq2\"><strong>NOTE:<\/strong> Throughput speed (consumer experience), signal strength, network generation and frequency band information are collected across all four of the main UK mobile operators \u2013 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/go\/eebroadband\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">EE<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/go\/threeuk\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">Three UK<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/go\/vodafoneuk\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">Vodafone<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/go\/o2uk\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">O2<\/a>.<\/div>\n<p>The data they collect is then being used by local authorities to help identify areas that may require additional intervention in order to improve local mobile coverage and or network capacity. In addition, members of the public have also been given access to some of this data via an address-based coverage checker (more will become available as the studies are completed) and interactive map.<\/p>\n<p>The latest area to benefit from this is the London borough of <strong>Brent<\/strong> &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/app.streetwave.co\/coverage-checker\/70\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>https:\/\/app.streetwave.co\/coverage-checker\/70<\/strong><\/a>.
