{"id":41527,"date":"2025-04-16T10:34:24","date_gmt":"2025-04-16T09:34:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/?p=41527"},"modified":"2025-04-16T10:34:24","modified_gmt":"2025-04-16T09:34:24","slug":"big-move-as-uk-civil-engineering-giant-m-group-acquires-telent","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/2025\/04\/big-move-as-uk-civil-engineering-giant-m-group-acquires-telent.html","title":{"rendered":"Big Move as UK Civil Engineering Giant M Group Acquires Telent"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Street works firm <a href=\"https:\/\/mgroupltd.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">M Group<\/a>, which was last year acquired by private equity firm CVC (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/2024\/06\/cvc-confirms-deal-to-acquire-uk-street-works-firm-m-group.html\">here<\/a>) and also harbours a telecoms (broadband and mobile) focused division, has today announced that they&#8217;ve acquired rival UK and Ireland focused technology, telecoms and civil engineering firm <a href=\"https:\/\/telent.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Telent<\/a> for an undisclosed sum.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>On completion of the transaction, which is currently still subject to regulatory approval, M Group said they would be &#8220;<em>even better placed to tackle the evolving challenges of the ageing infrastructure across the UK and Ireland<\/em>&#8220;, not least by combining M Group\u2019s infrastructure service offering with Telent\u2019s technology and digital solution capabilities.<\/p>\n<p>Telent has somewhat of a &#8220;differentiated position&#8221; in mission-critical communications, network infrastructure and end-to-end cybersecurity services, which will complement M Group. &#8220;It also expands M Group\u2019s reach into attractive adjacent markets, including the public sector, defence, emergency services and education,&#8221; said the announcement.<\/p>\n<p>The hope is that bringing Telent into the M Group family will &#8220;<em>strengthen longstanding relationships with shared customers<\/em>&#8220;, including Transport for London (TfL), National Highways, Network Rail, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/go\/vm\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">Virgin Media<\/a> \/ <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/go\/o2uk\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">O2<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/go\/britishtelecom\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">BT<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/go\/eebroadband\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">EE<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/openreach\" target=\"_blank\">Openreach<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"bq1\"><p><strong>Andrew Findlay, CEO of M Group, said:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This is a hugely transformative deal for M Group and I am delighted Telent is joining us.<\/p>\n<p>We recognise the strength of Telent\u2019s differentiated capabilities, market position and talented people that make it a great business. This has in turn has caused a lot of network operators to slow and even pause some deployments as they revaluate their future strategies, which has had a knock-on impact for a lot of linked civil engineer firms (job cuts, contract cancellations etc.).
