{"id":4161,"date":"2013-09-23T11:12:36","date_gmt":"2013-09-23T10:12:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/?p=4161"},"modified":"2013-09-23T11:18:56","modified_gmt":"2013-09-23T10:18:56","slug":"ee-still-fastest-network-4g-mobile-broadband-speeds-london-uk","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/2013\/09\/ee-still-fastest-network-4g-mobile-broadband-speeds-london-uk.html","title":{"rendered":"EE Still the Fastest Network for 4G Mobile Broadband Speeds in London UK"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The latest preliminary <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rootmetrics.com\/uk\/\" target=\"_blank\">RootMetrics<\/a> study of Mobile Broadband performance in London (England), which conducted more than 11,000 tests across the city, has revealed that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/go\/eebroadband\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">EE<\/a> continues to deliver the best Internet speeds despite the recent launch of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/go\/o2uk\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">O2<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/go\/vodafoneuk\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">Vodafone<\/a>&#8217;s new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/4g\">4G<\/a> (LTE) based networks.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The research splits two charts to show the performance of all technologies (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/3g\">3G<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/4g\">4G<\/a>), as well as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/4g\">4G<\/a>-only speeds. The first <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/3g\">3G<\/a>\/4G chart is arguably more representative of normal performance because you won&#8217;t always be able to get a 4G connection. Indeed RootMetric&#8217;s said they were able to connect to each operator\u2019s 4G network &#8220;<em>at least 63% of the time<\/em>&#8221; during testing.<\/p>\n<p>Overall <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/go\/eebroadband\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">EE<\/a> comes top with a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/3g\">3G<\/a>\/4G rate of <strong>22.7Mbps<\/strong> (download) and a 4G-only speed of <strong>29.6Mbps<\/strong>, which isn&#8217;t surprising because <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/go\/eebroadband\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">EE<\/a> recently began rolling out their double speed upgrade that boosted the amount of <strong>1800MHz<\/strong> radio spectrum bandwidth dedicated to their LTE network from 10MHz to 20MHz at each cell (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/2013\/07\/ee-uk-prep-new-fibre-broadband-router-and-start-4g-speed-boost-to-80mb.html\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>).<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"bq1\"><p><strong>RootMetrics added:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;<em>But we did measure each network\u2019s maximum speeds while purely on 4G. While EE easily had the fastest maximum upload speed, the maximum speeds we found from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/go\/o2uk\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">O2<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/go\/vodafoneuk\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">Vodafone<\/a> were very impressive. EE hit a maximum download speed of 79.1 Mbps, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/go\/o2uk\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">O2<\/a> clocked in at 65.8 Mbps, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/go\/vodafoneuk\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">Vodafone<\/a> hit a maximum download speed of 57.7 Mbps. In terms of maximum upload speed, EE had the fastest speed at 49.1 Mbps, while O2\u2019s maximum upload speed was 23.7 Mbps, and Vodafone\u2019s maximum upload speed was 23.6 Mbps<\/em>.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>On the other hand O2 and Vodafone&#8217;s 4G network has only just launched and we&#8217;d thus expect their performance to slip as more users begin to fill-up the capacity, although LTE has been well designed for capacity management.
