Internet and phone provider TalkTalk<\/a> UK has become the first consumer ISP to announce the launch of its optional ‘up to’ 80Mbps Fibre Broadband Boost<\/strong> (20Mbps uploads) upgrade, which uses BT<\/a>’s FTTC<\/a> technology and is available for +\u00a315 extra per month<\/strong> to the providers existing broadband subscribers (i.e. ‘Essentials’ and ‘Plus’ package customers).

\nThe original ‘up to’ 40Mbps (2Mbps uploads) Boost is also still available at the original price of +\u00a310 extra per month. There is also a one-off \u00a325 activation<\/strong> fee, which covers the engineer installation and included VDSL Modem. At present the service is also only available to around 30-40% of the country.<\/p>\n

Tristia Clarke, Commercial Director at TalkTalk<\/a>, said:<\/strong><\/p>\n

“Demand is continuing to increase for superfast broadband as more customers use their internet connections to watch live television, stream HD content, talk to their friends and family or play games that require real time responses.<\/em><\/p>\n

We expect our new Superfast Fibre Optic Broadband to be very popular as it will allow the whole family to enjoy seamless connectivity and high upload and download speeds for unbeatable value<\/em>.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

TalkTalk<\/a>’s announcement follows just an hour after BTOpenreach announced the “early<\/em>” April 2012 launch of its 80Mbps FTTC<\/a> upgrade (here<\/a>) and gives us some insight into how other ISPs might price the service (i.e. expect a premium of around +\u00a35 upon existing 40Mbps packages).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
