This will also support the deployment of future satellites.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/satellite\">Satellite<\/a> operators SpaceX (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/starlink\" target=\"_blank\">Starlink<\/a>) and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/go\/amazon\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">Amazon<\/a> (Project Kuiper) are currently known to be preparing to harness the Q\/V band(s) to support their broadband services. On top of that, the Global <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/satellite\">Satellite<\/a> Operators Association (GSOA) has also confirmed that &#8220;<em>many of its members<\/em>&#8221; had either started or were intending to use the Q\/V band for feeder links for future generations of their gateways.<\/p>\n<p>Suffice to say that there&#8217;s plenty of demand for these bands and so <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/ofcom\" target=\"_blank\">Ofcom<\/a> has proposed to make the spectrum available to both traditional geostationary orbit (GSO) satellites and also those in non-geostationary orbits (NGSO), such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/starlink\" target=\"_blank\">Starlink<\/a> etc. Faster broadband speeds should be one of the results.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"bq1\"><p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/ofcom\" target=\"_blank\">Ofcom<\/a>&#8217;s Proposal<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This document sets out our proposal to make spectrum available for GSO and NGSO satellite gateways in Q\/V band. We are proposing to extend access for satellite gateway use into these bands under our \u201cSatellite (Permanent Earth Station)\u201d licence (for GSO gateways) and \u201cSatellite (non-geostationary earth station)\u201d licence (for NGSO gateways).<\/p>\n<p>We propose to make available the following frequencies for use by satellite gateways operating with GSO satellites and NGSO constellations:<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 GSO: uplink 47.2 \u2013 50.2 GHz, 50.4 \u2013 52.4 GHz; downlink 37.5 \u2013 42.5 GHz<br \/>\n\u2022 NGSO: uplink 47.2 \u2013 50.2 GHz, 50.4 \u2013 51.4 GHz2; downlink 37.5 \u2013 42.5 GHz<\/p>\n<p>We are proposing to allow gateway deployments in \u2018low density areas,\u2019 which comprise nearly all of the UK landmass outside of the 68 major towns and cities identified as \u2018high density areas\u2019 for the upcoming 40 GHz award.<\/p>\n<p>We are proposing technical conditions to protect other authorised spectrum users.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Ofcom now intends to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ofcom.org.uk\/spectrum\/space-and-satellites\/expanding-spectrum-access-for-satellite-gateways\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">consult on this proposal<\/a> until <strong>30th September 2025<\/strong> and will then aim to published their decision &#8220;<em>by the end of 2025 or early 2026<\/em>&#8220;.
