Consumer mobile provider giffgaff<\/a>, which is a virtual mobile operator (MVNO) on O2<\/a>’s national 4G<\/a> \/ 5G<\/a> network that is also owned by Telef\u00f3nica UK, has this afternoon expanded the availability of their eSIM (Embedded SIM) support, making it easier for all customers – both new and existing subscribers alike – to access.<\/p>\n

Just to recap. The eSIM<\/strong> standard is an alternative to physical SIM cards, which works by essentially embedding a digital SIM into your device (Smartphone) that could \u2013 once fully implemented \u2013 make it easier and quicker to switch between operators (e.g. not having to wait for a SIM card to arrive), as well as to use additional networks alongside your main mobile plan (e.g. eSIMs for travel when abroad).<\/p>\n

Regular readers might recall that giffgaff<\/a> originally began introducing eSIM support back in 2023 (here<\/a>), although this was initially only made available to existing customers and on certain devices. After that it was made available to new customers too, but you can now access all of this fully via their website.<\/p>\n

Whether you\u2019re on Android or Apple, when you select your SIM-only mobile plan, you\u2019ll be asked if you want to proceed with a physical SIM card or an eSIM and get connected in minutes! When starting the eSIM installation process in the app, there will be a handy self-help video coming next week to guide you through the set-up process.<\/p>\n
