France-based internet connection benchmarking firm nPerf<\/a> has this morning published the results from their annual 2026 crowdsourced study into fixed broadband ISP speeds across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. The results cover Sky Broadband<\/a>, Virgin Media<\/a>, Vodafone<\/a>, TalkTalk<\/a>, Fibrus<\/a> (NI) and Ogi<\/a> (Wales).<\/p>\n

The latest nPerf studies (here<\/a>, here<\/a>, here<\/a> and here<\/a>) are based on masses of tests carried out \u2013 between January and December 2025 \u2013 exclusively by customers of the aforementioned internet providers – using tools on both nPerf\u2019s website and via their dedicated mobile testing apps for Android and iOS. But we don\u2019t get any hard stats on the sample sizes or structure.<\/p>\n

NOTE:<\/strong> Web-based speedtests can be affected by various issues, such as slow Wi-Fi, limitations of the tester itself, local network congestion and package choice (a lot of people will pick a slower and cheaper plan, even with 1Gbps+ available) etc.<\/div>\n

However, the UK’s largest broadband provider \u2013 BT<\/a> (inc. EE<\/a> and Plusnet<\/a>) \u2013 is nowhere to be found in any of the summaries. The company states that they \u201conly include national internet service providers with a test share above 5%<\/em>\u201c, which suggests that BT<\/a> somehow ended up, in every nation, with a very small sample of results and that seems implausible.<\/p>\n

Suffice to say that we recommend taking these results, which we\u2019ve summarised below, with a pinch of salt. Overall, Virgin Media<\/a> scored the highest in England and Scotland, while Vodafone<\/a> came top for Northern Ireland and Wales.<\/p>\n
