Network operator Openreach<\/a> (BT<\/a>) has reached a new access agreement with the London Borough of Enfield, which will enable them to deploy their Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP<\/a>) broadband network across “thousands of flats and apartments<\/em>” in the area – initially starting with 1,500 properties across over 50 buildings.<\/p>\n

The additional flats and apartments will join more than 2.3 million homes and businesses across Greater London that already have access to the operator’s new full fibre network, which themselves form part of the 22m premises across the UK that have already been covered.<\/p>\n

The agreement will also support Openreach<\/a>’s up to \u00a315bn investment in deploying full fibre technology to cover 25 million UK premises by the end of December 2026. After that, there\u2019s a further ambition to reach up to 30 million premises by 2030, but the build plan for the 2026-2030 period has yet to be announced.<\/p>\n

Lilly Cunningham, Openreach MDU Professional, said:<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re thrilled to be working with the London Borough of Enfield on this significant broadband upgrade.<\/p>\n

Working together is a crucial step in making sure that residents across Enfield have access to some of the best broadband available anywhere in the UK.<\/p>\n

The upgrades are not automatic, so once full fibre is available, tenants should contact their broadband provider, place an order to get connected, and we\u2019ll do the rest.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Cllr Ayten Guzel, Enfield Council\u2019s Cabinet Member for Housing, said:<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cWe are pleased to be working with Openreach to bring faster, more reliable Full Fibre broadband to thousands of our residents. Access to high\u2011quality digital connectivity is essential for work, education and staying connected with family and friends.<\/p>\n

This investment means residents living in our council homes will benefit from modern infrastructure that supports everyday life. Improving the quality of our housing stock is a key priority for the Council, and this programme is an important step in delivering on our Housing Asset Management Strategy.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The new service, once live, can be ordered via various ISPs, such as BT<\/a>, Sky Broadband<\/a>, TalkTalk<\/a>, Vodafone<\/a> and many more (Openreach FTTP ISP Choices<\/strong><\/a>) \u2013 it is not usually an automatic upgrade, but some providers are offering something similar to customers on older networks.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
