{"id":45403,"date":"2026-04-09T00:03:27","date_gmt":"2026-04-08T23:03:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/?p=45403"},"modified":"2026-04-08T13:52:53","modified_gmt":"2026-04-08T12:52:53","slug":"wightfibre-join-uk-government-charter-to-stop-unexpected-bill-increases","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/2026\/04\/wightfibre-join-uk-government-charter-to-stop-unexpected-bill-increases.html","title":{"rendered":"WightFibre Join UK Government Charter to Stop Unexpected Bill Increases"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Broadband provider <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/wightfibre\">WightFibre<\/a>, which operates its own independent gigabit speed Full Fibre (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/fttp\">FTTP<\/a>) network across the Isle of Wight \u2013 just off the South Coast of Hampshire in England, has this week become the latest ISP to sign up to the Government\u2019s new <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/2026\/02\/major-uk-broadband-isps-sign-gov-charter-to-stop-unexpected-bill-increases.html\">Telecoms Consumer Charter<\/a><\/strong> (TCC).<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The Government announced the new charter in February 2026, which succeeded in getting the major UK broadband and phone providers \u2013 including <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/go\/britishtelecom\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">BT<\/a> (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/go\/eebroadband\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">EE<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/go\/plusnetuk\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">Plusnet<\/a>), <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/go\/vm\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">Virgin Media<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/go\/o2uk\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">O2<\/a>, VodafoneThree (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/go\/vodafoneuk\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">Vodafone<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/go\/threeuk\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">Three UK<\/a>), <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/go\/bskyb\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">Sky Broadband<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/go\/tt\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">TalkTalk<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/go\/kcom\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">KCOM<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/go\/communityfibre\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">CommunityFibre<\/a> \u2013 to make a commitment to \u201c<em>stop unexpected bill increases<\/em>\u201c (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/2026\/02\/major-uk-broadband-isps-sign-gov-charter-to-stop-unexpected-bill-increases.html\">see our summary<\/a>).<\/p>\n<div class=\"bq2\"><strong>NOTE:<\/strong> The new charter is also supported by the Internet Service Providers Association (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/ispa\" target=\"_blank\">ISPA<\/a>) and the Independent Networks Cooperative Association (INCA).<\/div>\n<p>The good news is that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/wightfibre\">WightFibre<\/a> has now signed up to the same charter. But it should be said that the TCC doesn\u2019t do anything to stop mid-contract price hikes themselves and nor does it address the unfairness of how mid-contract price hikes are currently being applied (e.g. applying the same flat c.\u00a32-\u00a34 monthly increase to those who pay just c.\u00a320 a month and those who pay c.\u00a3100 \u2013 disproportionately targeting those least able to afford it).<\/p>\n<p>The TCC was a somewhat belated reaction to last year\u2019s controversial decision by mobile operator <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/go\/o2uk\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">O2<\/a> (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/2025\/10\/o2-uk-increases-mid-contract-price-hikes-for-mobile-customers.html\">here<\/a>), which suddenly increased the cost of their existing mid-contract price hikes policy and applied that to their existing customers too (i.e. those who had signed-up via the previous policy were forced to accept the new one and its higher prices).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Broadband provider WightFibre, which operates its own independent gigabit speed Full Fibre (FTTP) network across the Isle of Wight \u2013 just off the South Coast of Hampshire in England, has this week become the latest ISP to sign up to the Government\u2019s new Telecoms Consumer Charter (TCC).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":26636,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"ngg_post_thumbnail":0,"footnotes":""},"categories":[1],"tags":[431,36,38,2638],"class_list":["post-45403","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-uk_isp_news","tag-hampshire","tag-ofcom-regulation","tag-politics","tag-social-tariff"],"share_on_mastodon":{"url":"https:\/\/mastodon.social\/@ispreview\/116371587708152940","error":""},"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v28.3 -
