{"id":459,"date":"2012-03-17T08:01:33","date_gmt":"2012-03-17T08:01:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/?p=459"},"modified":"2012-03-17T08:01:33","modified_gmt":"2012-03-17T08:01:33","slug":"bt-makes-it-easier-to-migrate-away-from-sub-loop-unbundled-broadband-isps","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/2012\/03\/bt-makes-it-easier-to-migrate-away-from-sub-loop-unbundled-broadband-isps.html","title":{"rendered":"BT Makes it Easier to Migrate Away from Sub Loop Unbundled Broadband ISPs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>BTOpenreach, which provides UK ISPs with equal access to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/go\/britishtelecom\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">BT<\/a>&#8217;s local and national telecoms and internet infrastructure, has moved to &#8220;<em>improve and enhance the end user experience<\/em>&#8221; by allowing shared and fully unbundled (LLU) broadband providers (e.g. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/go\/tt\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">TalkTalk<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/go\/bskyb\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">Sky Broadband<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/go\/o2uk\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">O2<\/a> UK etc.) to submit orders to migrate customers away from rivals on <strong>Sub-Loop Unbundling<\/strong> (SLU) services.<br \/>\n<!--more--><br \/>\nSub-Loop Unbundling allows ISPs, such as Rutland Telecom (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/go\/gigaclear\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">Gigaclear<\/a>) in rural areas, to <strong>build and control their own street cabinets<\/strong> right next door to one of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/go\/britishtelecom\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">BT<\/a>&#8217;s own. This helps smaller providers to bring faster and more advanced broadband services to areas that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/go\/britishtelecom\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">BT<\/a> might have otherwise ignored.<\/p>\n<p>The process is broadly similar to a normal migration between unbundled providers, although the nature of SLU kit means that it requires &#8220;<em>separate engineering activities<\/em>&#8221; to complete properly. As a result the customer could face a &#8220;<em>longer period of downtime<\/em>&#8221; on the day of migration and other problems, such as <strong>faulty tie pairs<\/strong> causing an additional delay to the work, could extend that period even further until resolved.<\/p>\n<p>The involvement of BT engineers also ramps up the cost to <strong>\u00a3127.61 +vat<\/strong> for migrating from an SLU to LLU provider.
