{"id":47633,"date":"2026-08-07T10:13:16","date_gmt":"2026-08-07T09:13:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/?p=47633"},"modified":"2026-08-07T10:13:16","modified_gmt":"2026-08-07T09:13:16","slug":"oneweb-broadband-satellites-help-lift-leo-revenues-69-5-percent-at-eutelsat","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/2026\/08\/oneweb-broadband-satellites-help-lift-leo-revenues-69-5-percent-at-eutelsat.html","title":{"rendered":"OneWeb Broadband Satellites Help Lift LEO Revenues 69.5 Percent at Eutelsat"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>European <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/satellite\">satellite<\/a> operator <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/eutelsat\" target=\"_blank\">Eutelsat<\/a> just published their results for the year ended 30th June 2026 and reported that their revenues from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/oneweb\" target=\"_blank\">OneWeb<\/a>\u2019s constellation of ultrafast broadband satellites in Low Earth Orbit (LEO) &#8220;<em>beat expectations<\/em>&#8220;, jumping by 69.5% to \u20ac297m (accounting for 25% of the group&#8217;s overall revenues).<!--more--><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/oneweb\" target=\"_blank\">OneWeb<\/a>, which regular readers may recall was originally rescued from bankruptcy by the UK government and Indian group Bharti Global, before later becoming a part of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/eutelsat\" target=\"_blank\">Eutelsat<\/a> \u2013 with concessions (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/2023\/09\/eutelsat-complete-merger-with-uk-satellite-broadband-operator-oneweb.html\">here<\/a>), currently has <a href=\"https:\/\/planet4589.org\/space\/con\/ow\/stats.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">654<\/a> small (c.150kg) first generation (GEN1) LEO satellites in space \u2013 orbiting at an altitude of 1,200km (c.600 of them for coverage and the rest for redundancy).<\/p>\n<div class=\"bq2\"><strong>NOTE:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/eutelsat\" target=\"_blank\">Eutelsat<\/a> has its HQ in Paris, while <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/oneweb\" target=\"_blank\">OneWeb<\/a> is a subsidiary operating commercially as Eutelsat OneWeb, with its centre of operations remaining in London. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/go\/britishtelecom\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">BT<\/a> and others have previously worked with OneWeb on several UK rural broadband trials (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/2023\/07\/bt-and-onewebs-rural-broadband-trial-goes-live-in-devon-uk.html\">here<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/2023\/04\/oneweb-and-bt-confirmed-for-rural-uk-satellite-broadband-trial.html\">here<\/a>).<\/div>\n<p>Plans also exist to renew and enhance the constellation with a further 440 satellites being planned for launch (aka &#8211; &#8220;<em>Eutelsat Next<\/em>&#8220;) \u2013 starting later in 2026 (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/2026\/01\/eutelsat-orders-340-extra-oneweb-leo-broadband-satellites-from-airbus.html\">here<\/a>). <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eutelsat.com\/system\/files\/2026-08\/DOC_Investors_PR-FY-2025-26-final_EN_070826.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Eutelsat&#8217;s latest results<\/a> also confirm that an approximately \u20ac1 billion Export Credit Agency (ECA)-backed financing facility exists to support the acquisition of those new satellites from Airbus Defence and Space.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;<em>These satellites will provide full operational continuity for OneWeb LEO constellation customers, gradually replacing existing satellites at the end of their operational life<\/em>,&#8221; said the company. The results didn&#8217;t add much to that, but did reveal that the OneWeb side of the business now has 496 employees, which is slightly down from the 510 they had last year.<\/p>\n<p>The first of the second generation of Eutelsat&#8217;s LEO satellites (Eutelsat Next) are due to be delivered by around the end of 2026.
