{"id":4764,"date":"2013-12-05T13:53:11","date_gmt":"2013-12-05T13:53:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/?p=4764"},"modified":"2013-12-05T13:56:32","modified_gmt":"2013-12-05T13:56:32","slug":"10821-uk-premises-covered-per-million-superfast-broadband-funding","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/2013\/12\/10821-uk-premises-covered-per-million-superfast-broadband-funding.html","title":{"rendered":"10821 UK Premises Covered Per \u00a3Million of Superfast Broadband Funding"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/organisations\/department-for-culture-media-sport\" target=\"_blank\">Department for Culture, Media and Sport<\/a> (DCMS) has a published short performance report on the progress of their national \u00a31.2bn <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/bduk\" target=\"_blank\">Broadband Delivery UK<\/a> (BDUK) scheme, which claims that 10,821 premises have been covered by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/go\/britishtelecom\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">BT<\/a>&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/fttc\">FTTC<\/a>\/P based superfast broadband (25Mbps+) network per \u00a3million of public funding (up to the end of September 2013).<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The Government hopes to expand fixed line superfast broadband to reach around 90% of homes and businesses by the end of 2015 and then 95% in 2017 (99% by 2018 when you include mobile broadband and wireless solutions).<\/p>\n<p>The latest data shows that BDUK has helped to connect <strong>111,968 homes and businesses<\/strong> to superfast broadband by the end of September 2013. Take note that this specifically excludes non-superfast premises that have benefitted from BDUK funding but which still cannot achieve speeds of greater than 24Mbps.<\/p>\n<div align=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"ngg-singlepic ngg-none\" alt=\"bduk deployment september 2013\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/wp-content\/gallery\/2013-internet-statistics\/bduk_deployment_september_2013.gif\" \/><\/div>\n<p>Yesterday\u2019s <strong>National Infrastructure Plan<\/strong> update (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/2013\/12\/uk-government-touts-10m-competitive-fund-boost-rural-broadband.html\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>) also revealed that the public funded roll-out of superfast broadband had reached over <strong>140,000 premises<\/strong> so far, with 10,000 additional premises being passed per week; this is based on the most recent late October 2013 figures (set to reach 25,000 per week by spring 2014 and 40,000 by summer 2014).<\/p>\n<p>Both <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/pointtopic\" target=\"_blank\">Point Topic<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/ofcom\" target=\"_blank\">Ofcom<\/a> suggest that the current level of superfast broadband coverage across the United Kingdom is already hovering around the 75% mark (population), which is largely thanks to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/go\/vm\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">Virgin Media<\/a>&#8217;s\u00a0on-going cable\u00a0speed upgrades and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/go\/britishtelecom\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">BT<\/a> having\u00a0made their own\u00a0&#8220;<em>fibre broadband<\/em>&#8221; (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/fttc\">FTTC<\/a>\/P) network\u00a0available to 17 million UK homes and businesses (this is all predominantly commercial investment &#8211; BDUK has yet to have a big impact but it is\u00a0ramping up quite fast).<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile 42 out of 44 local broadband (BDUK) projects have now completed their procurements and the final two projects are due to complete procurement before the end of 2013.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) has a published short performance report on the progress of their national \u00a31.2bn Broadband Delivery UK (BDUK) scheme, which claims that 10,821 premises have been covered by BT&#8217;s FTTC\/P based superfast broadband (25Mbps+) network per \u00a3million of public funding (up to the end of September 2013).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":4647,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"ngg_post_thumbnail":0,"footnotes":""},"categories":[1],"tags":[474,471,34],"class_list":["post-4764","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-uk_isp_news","tag-bt","tag-bduk","tag-statistics"],"share_on_mastodon":{"url":"","error":""},"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v28.3 -
