But they also wrote another \u00a317.1m off the value of their assets.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Just to recap. Over the past few years Wildanet has come under many of the same pressures as other UK broadband ISPs and network builders, which typically stems from issues such as high interest rates, rising build costs, competition and the associated difficulty of being able to raise fresh investment. Last year this resulted in job cuts (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/2025\/02\/alternative-cornwall-uk-broadband-network-wildanet-to-cut-jobs.html\">here<\/a>) and they then started 2026 by withdrawing from two of the government&#8217;s <strong>Project Gigabit<\/strong> broadband contracts in Cornwall (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/2026\/02\/wildanet-statement-on-withdrawal-from-cornwalls-gigabit-broadband-contracts.html\">here<\/a>).<\/p>\n<div class=\"bq2\"><strong>NOTE:<\/strong> Wildanet is supported by an investment of \u00a3100m from <strong>Gresham House<\/strong> and \u00a335m from the <strong>National Wealth Fund<\/strong>. The operator also continues to slowly deliver on their Lot 32 Project Gigabit contract for Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/2024\/04\/gov-awards-six-new-uk-project-gigabit-broadband-build-contracts.html\">here<\/a>), which was originally valued at \u00a341m (public subsidy) and is currently <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/2026\/08\/august-2026-contract-progress-of-uk-project-gigabit-broadband-rollout.html\">30% complete<\/a>.<\/div>\n<p>The company&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/find-and-update.company-information.service.gov.uk\/company\/10586466\/filing-history\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">latest accounts<\/a> reflect the aforementioned changes and climate, albeit while reporting positive revenue growth to \u00a32.513m (2024: \u00a31.757m) and adjusted EBITDA (earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation) in positive territory of \u00a34.277m (2024: loss of \u00a34.306m).<\/p>\n<p>Sadly, Wildanet also made a loss after tax of \u00a330.202m (2024: \u00a374.282m) and reported that it had fixed assets worth \u00a345.482m (2024: \u00a336.960m). The impact of earlier job cuts similarly showed in the company&#8217;s latest headcount of 179 (2024: 212).<\/p>\n<p>Page 22 of the results then shows how Wildanet have acknowledged that some of the fibre network and other assets it had previously put on its balance sheet were no longer worth as much as it had assumed. This resulted in a \u00a317.1m impairment charge in 2025, which follows an even larger \u00a355.6m impairment in 2024. As a result, the value before impairment was \u00a360.617m and it is now \u00a343.520m.<\/p>\n<p>The provider attributes this to various things, such as historical trading performance putting pressure on customer tariffs, withdrawing from the two Project Gigabit contracts, uncertainty over how much money their fibre network will generate in the future, general forecast changes, the cost of building, installing and operating the network etc.<\/p>\n<p>In short, the economics of the network weren&#8217;t looking as good as originally expected, which is a common theme in today&#8217;s market. All of this is an accounting adjustment (not the same as actual money spent), albeit a significant one. Across the last two years, Wildanet has recognised roughly \u00a372.7m of impairments.<\/p>\n<p>Despite the challenges, Wildanet expects further growth of the business during 2026 as customer numbers increase and the network continues to expand.
