For Avanti this means leading a consortium of five UK industry partners to develop a &#8220;<em>rugged and lightweight portable <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/satellite\">satellite<\/a> terminal<\/em>&#8220;, optimised for Avanti\u2019s Ka-band <strong>HYLAS<\/strong> fleet of satellites.<\/p>\n<p>This portable terminal will apparently provide &#8220;<em>high speed broadband access<\/em>&#8220;, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/3g\">3G<\/a> mobile connectivity and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/satellite\">satellite<\/a> navigation services for <strong>nomadic users<\/strong> (including emergency services, crisis management teams, journalists and the military).<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"bq1\"><p><strong>David Williams, Chief Executive Officer of Avanti, said:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;<em>We are delighted at the award of this grant, which recognises Avanti\u2019s technical expertise and the increasing importance of Ka-band in specialised applications<\/em>.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Separately Avanti, which successfully launched its first &#8216;up to&#8217; <strong>10Mbps<\/strong> capable <strong>HYLAS 1<\/strong> (<em>Highly Adaptable Satellite<\/em>) rural broadband spacecraft in November 2010, is still aiming to launch its significantly more powerful <strong>HYLAS 2<\/strong> satellite during <strong>late spring<\/strong> (Q2-2012).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The UK Space Agency, an executive agency for the governments Department of Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS), has awarded \u00a31.1 Million from its new grant funding of \u00a36 Million to broadband satellite operator Avanti Communications.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"ngg_post_thumbnail":0,"footnotes":""},"categories":[1],"tags":[77],"class_list":["post-625","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-uk_isp_news","tag-satellite"],"share_on_mastodon":{"url":"","error":""},"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v28.3 -
