{"id":7091,"date":"2014-06-28T07:49:11","date_gmt":"2014-06-28T06:49:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/?p=7091"},"modified":"2014-06-28T07:49:11","modified_gmt":"2014-06-28T06:49:11","slug":"bt-openreach-confirm-final-uk-phone-broadband-prices-1st-july","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/2014\/06\/bt-openreach-confirm-final-uk-phone-broadband-prices-1st-july.html","title":{"rendered":"BT Openreach Confirm Final UK Phone and Broadband Prices for 1st July"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>BTOpenreach has posted a lengthy list of price changes that represent the final outcome of <a class=\"shortlink shortlink-133 shortlink-chref\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/ofcom\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"\" title=\"ofcom\" data-chref=\"https:\/\/www.ofcom.org.uk\">Ofcom<\/a>&#8217;s Fixed Access Market Reviews (FAMR), which are due to take effect from 1st July 2014 and include everything from the expected line rental adjustments to cheaper fault fixing engineer visits (Special Fault Investigation) etc. The list is quite extensive.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The regulators final FAMR report (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/2014\/06\/ofcom-uk-impose-new-quality-service-rules-upon-bt-openreach.html\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>), which also imposed new quality standards upon <a class=\"shortlink shortlink-145\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/go\/britishtelecom\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\" title=\"BT\">BT<\/a>&#8217;s network, didn&#8217;t offer a clear breakdown of all the various price adjustments and so <a class=\"shortlink shortlink-46 shortlink-chref\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/openreach\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"\" title=\"openreach\" data-chref=\"https:\/\/www.openreach.co.uk\">Openreach<\/a>&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.openreach.co.uk\/orpg\/home\/updates\/briefings\/generalbriefings\/generalbriefingsarticles\/gen05314.do\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>latest briefing<\/strong><\/a> makes for a very useful summary and even extends to other areas like time related charges (additional engineer costs etc.), tie cables and co-mingling (just skip those if you don&#8217;t know what they are).<\/p>\n<p>Regular readers will already know about the expected <strong>line rental changes<\/strong> (both for <a class=\"shortlink shortlink-145\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/go\/britishtelecom\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\" title=\"BT\">BT<\/a>&#8217;s own WLR and the unbundled <a class=\"shortlink shortlink-108 shortlink-chref\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/llu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"\" title=\"llu\" data-chref=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/jargon\/jargon_detail.php?LLU---Local-Loop-Unbundling-53\">LLU<\/a> MPF\/SMPF) products, which will impact most of the major broadband ISPs in some way, but there are also other cost changes that we haven&#8217;t covered much before and the relevant ones are summarised below (the rest are arguably of more interest to ISPs). Please check the briefing link above for a full summary.<\/p>\n<p>In particular, we note that the cost of having an engineer investigate a fault (SFI) with your line (\u00a3124.97 +vat) or to install a new connection via BT&#8217;s national UK telecoms network (\u00a344.49 for\u00a0Wholesale Line Rental) is set to fall by 6-7%, while fully unbundled <a class=\"shortlink shortlink-108 shortlink-chref\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/llu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"\" title=\"llu\" data-chref=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/jargon\/jargon_detail.php?LLU---Local-Loop-Unbundling-53\">LLU<\/a> (MPF) lines like the ones that <a class=\"shortlink shortlink-59\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/go\/tt\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\" title=\"talktalk\">TalkTalk<\/a> and <a class=\"shortlink shortlink-86\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/go\/bskyb\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\" title=\"Sky Broadband\">Sky Broadband<\/a> use (note: Sky also has a fair few SMPF connections)\u00a0will get 2-3% more expensive for new provides (\u00a346.44) and annual rental (\u00a386.11).<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s likely that some ISPs may factor these changes into their forthcoming summer\/autumn price updates, although we don&#8217;t anticipate a huge impact upon end-user prices because most of the changes are fairly small.
