The \u00a314 million Broadband East Riding Project<\/span><\/a> in Yorkshire (England) has confirmed the next batch of areas that will shortly begin to receive an upgrade to superfast broadband (24Mbps+) speeds via BT<\/a>’s FTTC<\/a>\/P network.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The first phase of the scheme is now nearly complete and has already helped to upgrade around 13,000 of the targeted premises. Meanwhile\u00a0the project’s overall goal\u00a0is to bring the new service within reach of 42,734<\/strong> local homes and businesses by December 2015<\/p>\n

By comparison the next two roll-out phases, which start now and should complete during early 2015<\/strong>, will aim to benefit an additional 20,000 premises<\/strong> with access to BT<\/a>’s “fibre broadband<\/em>” network.<\/p>\n

Tom Keeney, BT’s Regional Director for Yorkshire and the Humber, said: <\/strong><\/p>\n

“We are now starting to reach into the heart of communities across the county that have so far been beyond the reach of high-speed broadband. The progress so far is all the more impressive given that we are laying a whole new network across a county covering roughly 930 square miles where around half the population live in dispersed rural communities.<\/em><\/p>\n

In the modern world, digital connectivity is as important as having access to electricity and running water. From children doing their homework to caring for our elderly population and from social media to e-commerce and home entertainment \u2013 fast broadband is the critical enabler<\/em>.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
