{"id":7984,"date":"2014-11-03T16:15:51","date_gmt":"2014-11-03T16:15:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/?p=7984"},"modified":"2014-11-03T16:15:51","modified_gmt":"2014-11-03T16:15:51","slug":"broadband-delivery-uk-progress-in-cheshire","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/2014\/11\/broadband-delivery-uk-progress-in-cheshire.html","title":{"rendered":"Broadband Delivery UK Progress as Cheshire Reaches Half-Way Point"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The \u00a328.5m <a href=\"http:\/\/www.connectingcheshire.org.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #227ab4;\">Connecting Cheshire<\/span><\/a> project in England has become the latest <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/bduk\" target=\"_blank\">Broadband Delivery UK<\/a> (BDUK) programme to reach the half-way mark after it announced that 40,000 additional local homes and businesses had now been connected to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/go\/britishtelecom\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">BT<\/a>&#8217;s &#8220;<em>fibre broadband<\/em>&#8221; (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/fttc\">FTTC<\/a>\/P) network, which aims to reach 96% of premises across the region by the end of summer 2015.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Apparently BTOpenreach&#8217;s engineers have so far installed more than 200 new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/fttc\">FTTC<\/a> based roadside street cabinets and laid around 400 kilometres of fibre optic cable. As a result the areas now able to access <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/go\/britishtelecom\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">BT<\/a>&#8217;s &#8220;<em>fibre broadband<\/em>&#8221; network include:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>Cheshire East<\/strong> \u2013 Alderley Edge, Disley, Poynton, Plumley and Sutton.<br \/>\n<strong>Cheshire West <\/strong>\u2013 Burton, Keslall, Kingsley, Sandiway and Weaverham.<br \/>\n<strong>Halton<\/strong> \u2013 Hale, Sandymoor, Manor Park and Widnes.<br \/>\n<strong>Warrington<\/strong> \u2013 Westbrook, Whittle Hall and Padgate.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Overall around <strong>400,000 premises<\/strong> will have access to faster broadband speeds (between 2Mbps and 80Mbps) by the end of 2015 (note: this includes separate commercial work by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/go\/britishtelecom\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">BT<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/go\/vm\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">Virgin Media<\/a> etc.), although unfortunately it remains unclear what proportion of those can expect to receive so-called &#8220;<em>superfast broadband<\/em>&#8221; speeds of greater than 24Mbps.<\/p>\n<p>Going forward Cheshire has also been allocated additional funding from BDUK, which should be enough to push &#8220;<em>fibre broadband<\/em>&#8221; coverage up to <strong>99% by 2017<\/strong>.
