{"id":8656,"date":"2015-02-09T07:51:55","date_gmt":"2015-02-09T07:51:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/?p=8656"},"modified":"2015-02-09T07:51:55","modified_gmt":"2015-02-09T07:51:55","slug":"uk-business-broadband-vouchers-extended-4-cities-scotland","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/2015\/02\/uk-business-broadband-vouchers-extended-4-cities-scotland.html","title":{"rendered":"UK Business Broadband Vouchers Extended to 4 More Cities in Scotland"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Government\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.connectionvouchers.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #227ab4;\">Connection Voucher<\/span><\/a> scheme, which offers grants worth between \u00a3200 and \u00a33,000 to help small and medium sized businesses in any of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/2013\/12\/broadband-connection-voucher-scheme-goes-live-first-uk-cities.html\" target=\"_blank\">22 cities<\/a> across the United Kingdom to get a superfast broadband (30Mbps+) service installed, has today been extended to four additional cities in Scotland.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The voucher scheme, which had initially showed low uptake before improving towards the end of 2014 thanks to extra promotion and greater flexibility, was originally due to end in March 2015. But the Government recently decided to add an extra <strong>\u00a340m<\/strong> to the pot (total funding of approximately \u00a3140m) and extend it until <strong>March 2016<\/strong> (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/2014\/12\/superfast-broadband-connection-voucher-scheme-extended-2016.html\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>Part of this extension also involved making the vouchers available to more cities from <strong>April 2015<\/strong> and today we learnt that the first of these will benefit the Scottish cities of <strong>Glasgow<\/strong>, <strong>Inverness<\/strong>, <strong>Stirling<\/strong> and <strong>Dundee<\/strong> (currently only businesses in Edinburgh, Perth and Aberdeen can make use of the vouchers). In other words 26 cities will soon benefit.<\/p>\n<p>The Chief Secretary to the Treasury, <strong>Danny Alexander MP<\/strong> (LibDem), will announce the move today and say, &#8220;<em>For many businesses across Scotland and the UK, high-speed broadband isn&#8217;t a luxury, it&#8217;s a necessity &#8230; It is extremely frustrating that some small businesses in cities can&#8217;t get the broadband connection they need.
