{"id":8681,"date":"2015-02-11T14:53:17","date_gmt":"2015-02-11T14:53:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/?p=8681"},"modified":"2015-02-11T14:53:17","modified_gmt":"2015-02-11T14:53:17","slug":"b4rn-celebrate-800-homes-get-1gbps-ftth-broadband-lancashire","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/2015\/02\/b4rn-celebrate-800-homes-get-1gbps-ftth-broadband-lancashire.html","title":{"rendered":"B4RN Celebrate as 800 Homes Get 1Gbps FTTH Broadband in Lancashire"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The community built and funded <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/b4rn\" target=\"_blank\">B4RN<\/a> (Broadband for the Rural North) project has announced that they&#8217;ve now connected 800 homes (up from 600 in November 2014) to their 1000Mbps (1 Gigabit per second) capable Fibre-to-the-Home (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/ftth\">FTTH<\/a>\/P) broadband network in rural Lancashire (England).<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"http:\/\/recombu.com\/digital\/article\/rural-fibre-isp-b4rn-2000-by-end-of-2015\" target=\"_blank\">Recombu<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/b4rn\" target=\"_blank\">B4RN<\/a> now expects to have 1,000 customers connected by Easter 2015 and over <strong>2,000 by the end of 2015<\/strong>. This suggests a rather significant take-up since they&#8217;ve so far only planned to put the service within reach of a few thousand premises.<\/p>\n<p>Figures from last year suggested that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/b4rn\" target=\"_blank\">B4RN<\/a>&#8217;s service costs approximately <strong>\u00a31,000 per property<\/strong> to deploy (initially \u00a3750k was raised to fund this \u2013 between 2011 and 2012 \u2013 as part of the first share offer) and this is balanced against an average take-up of over 50% (note: some areas within its coverage are even said to have hit almost total uptake).<\/p>\n<p>Going forward B4RN has lots of expansion plans and anticipates an eventual push into the edges of Cumbria and Yorkshire.
