{"id":8855,"date":"2015-03-12T09:51:42","date_gmt":"2015-03-12T09:51:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/?p=8855"},"modified":"2015-03-12T09:51:42","modified_gmt":"2015-03-12T09:51:42","slug":"tay-forest-park-communities-in-scotland-get-20mb-wireless-broadband","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/2015\/03\/tay-forest-park-communities-in-scotland-get-20mb-wireless-broadband.html","title":{"rendered":"Tay Forest Park Communities in Scotland Get 20Mb Wireless Broadband"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) has announced that a new project, which is being funded by \u00a358,500 from Community Broadband Scotland (CBS), Perth and Kinross Council and the Griffin Windfarm Fund, will imminently help to connect several rural villages that circle <em>Tay Forest Park<\/em> (Amulree, Trochry and Struan) to a new fixed wireless broadband network.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Apparently many in the area struggle to receive broadband download speeds of even <strong>1Mbps<\/strong> (Megabits per second) and as a result a number of community volunteers setup the <a href=\"http:\/\/hpcp.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\">Highland Perthshire Communities Partnership<\/a> (HPCP). Readers might recall that we first touched on this plan last July 2014 (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/2014\/07\/wireless-broadband-set-fill-perthshires-broadband-gaps.html\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>), but since then plenty of progress has been made.<\/p>\n<p>The building work for five small-scale telecoms masts has almost completed and the group\u2019s ambition is to add more to ensure that &#8220;<em>no one in Highland Perthshire is left behind<\/em>&#8220;. The HIE&#8217;s press release talks about broadband speeds of &#8220;<em>as much as<\/em>&#8221; <strong>20Mbps<\/strong> being delivered, although HPCP&#8217;s website\u00a0talks of\u00a0being &#8220;<em>able to supply 16mbps to areas currently only achieving 0.45mbps, with the possibility of this being significantly increased in the future<\/em>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"bq1\"><p><strong>Shaun Marley of CBS said:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;<em>This project will open up access to homes and businesses locally who have been finding it difficult to carry out even the most basic of online tasks. Better broadband will create new opportunities and benefits and allow people to choose to live, work and learn in what is a beautiful part of the Perthshire countryside<\/em>.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>According to <strong>Bruce Patterson<\/strong>, the partnership\u2019s project officer, the first services could now be ready to go live by <strong>Easter 2015<\/strong>.
