Budget ISP PlusNet<\/a> seems to be in the news a lot this week and today is no exception with the broadband provider recently announcing that, over the next year and a half, it would create an additional 200 jobs in Yorkshire (England). Eeh by gum.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Somehow we overlooked this development from last week. Never the less the majority of PlusNet<\/a>’s new jobs will apparently be created for their call centre in Leeds<\/strong> (happily some ISPs do still have UK support staff), which marks an effective doubling of staff from the 250 or so that currently work in the building.<\/p>\n

A further 850 staff are also known to work at their HQ in Sheffield<\/strong> and rumour has it that every new employee gets a free Trumpet<\/del><\/a> Cornet, but that probably isn’t true.. appen.<\/p>\n

Andy Baker, PlusNet’s CEO, said (here<\/a>):<\/strong><\/p>\n

“We\u2019ve gone from opening the building in Leeds, in November 2013, to having just shy of 250 people in the building now. We\u2019ve also made the commitment to expand the building space. We\u2019ve got room to grow for another 200 people. We will grow into that space within the next 18 months. Plusnet has trebled in size over the last five years.<\/em><\/p>\n

We think the thing we do better is fuse together price and service. Service is really important to us. There\u2019s something about the Yorkshire personality that gives fabulous service<\/em>.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

PlusNet is owned by BT<\/a> and as such their broadband subscriber figures tend to form part of BT<\/a>’s overall total, which currently stands at 7,592,000. However, unofficially, some speculate that PlusNet itself appears to be creeping steadily towards the magic million mark, although they’ve still got a fair way to go.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile Companies House showed turnover of \u00a3178.9m<\/strong> for PlusNet in early 2014, which is up from \u00a3140.6m a year earlier and the ISP is expected to be “launching soon<\/em>” a new broadband TV product via the YouView<\/a> (IPTV<\/a>) platform (here<\/a>).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
