{"id":9184,"date":"2015-05-01T09:09:31","date_gmt":"2015-05-01T08:09:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/?p=9184"},"modified":"2015-05-01T09:09:31","modified_gmt":"2015-05-01T08:09:31","slug":"york-becomes-first-uk-city-to-receive-friendly-wifi-accreditation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/2015\/05\/york-becomes-first-uk-city-to-receive-friendly-wifi-accreditation.html","title":{"rendered":"York Becomes First UK City to Receive Friendly WiFi Accreditation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The City of York in England has become the first in the world to achieve a new &#8220;<em>Friendly Wi-Fi<\/em>&#8221; accreditation (not hard to do because it&#8217;s only just been created in the UK), which means that their free public wireless Internet hotspots employ strict filtering (censorship) to block &#8220;<em>inappropriate material<\/em>&#8221; (porn and child abuse).<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The scheme, which is supported by the Government and public <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/wifi\">WiFi<\/a> Hotspot providers, was created and launched in collaboration with the UK Council for Child Internet Safety (UKCCIS). Among other things it means that the network will now be able to display a new &#8220;<strong><em>Friendly <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/wifi\">WiFi<\/a><\/em><\/strong>&#8221; logo.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"bq1\"><p><strong>Roy Grant, Head of ICT at City of York Council, said:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;<em>This is another first for York. CityConnect <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/wifi\">WiFi<\/a> from Pinacl has proven popular with residents and tourists and we are delighted it has received the Friendly WiFi accreditation.
