{"id":9735,"date":"2015-07-22T08:36:14","date_gmt":"2015-07-22T07:36:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/?p=9735"},"modified":"2015-07-22T08:36:14","modified_gmt":"2015-07-22T07:36:14","slug":"uk-isp-talktalk-issues-unusually-vague-trading-update-for-q2-2015","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/2015\/07\/uk-isp-talktalk-issues-unusually-vague-trading-update-for-q2-2015.html","title":{"rendered":"UK ISP TalkTalk Issues Unusually Vague Trading Update for Q2 2015"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>ISP <a class=\"shortlink shortlink-59\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/go\/tt\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\" title=\"talktalk\">TalkTalk<\/a> appears to have somewhat broken with tradition this morning by issuing a surprisingly vague trading update for the second quarter of 2015, which reveals very little except to confirm that the migration of Tesco&#8217;s broadband customers onto their network has &#8220;<em>begun well<\/em>&#8221; and should complete over the coming months.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>At this point in the year we&#8217;d normally be bringing you a much more detailed update on <a class=\"shortlink shortlink-59\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/go\/tt\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\" title=\"talktalk\">TalkTalk<\/a>&#8217;s quarterly performance (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/2015\/05\/talktalk-top-4-28m-broadband-subs-as-1gbps-fttp-for-york-set-to-go-live.html\" target=\"_blank\">example<\/a>), complete with\u00a0subscriber figures, financials and progress on new or future products or business decisions. But sadly there&#8217;s none of that in today&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.talktalkgroup.com\/investors\/results-centre\" target=\"_blank\">brief trading update<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Instead there are a few fleeting mentions of 3.5% growth in quarterly revenue and a &#8220;<em>strong growth in mobile<\/em>&#8221; (they&#8217;ve taken a 15% share of the new SIM only market vs 11% in Q4 FY15). Otherwise they also mention the launch of their new <a class=\"shortlink shortlink-110 shortlink-chref\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/fttp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"\" title=\"fttp\" data-chref=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/broadband_fibre_optic.php\">FTTP<\/a> network in York under the <strong>Ultra Fibre Optic<\/strong> (UFO) branding (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/2015\/06\/uk-isp-talktalk-confirms-first-prices-for-1gbps-ftth-broadband-in-york.html\" target=\"_blank\">details<\/a>), but say nothing of its roll-out progress.<\/p>\n<p>So far as quarterly trading updates go, this is pretty bland. A TalkTalk spokesperson told ISPreview.co.uk the reason why, &#8220;<em>Along with many other companies, and following feedback from investors and analysts, we have taken the opportunity to review our reporting cycle.<\/em>&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Apparently the ISP\u2019s intention is now to provide detailed information at interims and full year results, while going forward their quarterly updates will contain less information on product-specific numbers. It will be interesting to see whether any rival ISPs have adopted the same approach, since it partly relates to a wider tweak\u00a0in reporting requirements.<\/p>\n<p>In the meantime it probably doesn&#8217;t hurt that this change coincides with a possible dip in subscription growth from the usual seasonal student leavers and the departure of their off-net broadband base to little known ISP <strong>Fleur Telecom<\/strong> (Daisy Group) for a contingent consideration of \u00a38m (generating a profit on disposal of \u00a35m); see the Q1 results for more (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/2015\/05\/talktalk-top-4-28m-broadband-subs-as-1gbps-fttp-for-york-set-to-go-live.html\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>Unofficially TalkTalk will only confirm that the broadband market was softer than seen in recent quarters and so it looks like we&#8217;ll have to wait until they release their official H1 results on <strong>10th November 2015<\/strong> before we get any detail.
