{"id":9898,"date":"2015-08-12T10:09:23","date_gmt":"2015-08-12T09:09:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/?p=9898"},"modified":"2015-08-12T10:10:31","modified_gmt":"2015-08-12T09:10:31","slug":"north-lincolnshire-touts-gbp1m-clawback-from-bt-for-better-broadband","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/2015\/08\/north-lincolnshire-touts-gbp1m-clawback-from-bt-for-better-broadband.html","title":{"rendered":"North Lincolnshire Touts GBP1m Clawback from BT for Better Broadband"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The clawback spam continues as the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.northlincs.gov.uk\/jobs-business-regen\/business-information-and-advice\/northern-lincolnshire-broadband-project\/\" target=\"_blank\">Northern Lincs Broadband<\/a> project confirms that its first roll-out contract, which completed in June 2015 after bringing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/go\/britishtelecom\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">BT<\/a>&#8217;s &#8220;<em>fibre broadband<\/em>&#8221; (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/fttc\">FTTC<\/a>\/P) network to 92.5% of premises, delivered &#8220;<em>savings<\/em>&#8221; of over \u00a31m that will be put back into further expanding coverage.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Overall around 27,000 homes and 4,000 businesses benefitted from the first <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/bduk\" target=\"_blank\">Broadband Delivery UK<\/a> based contract and a new <strong>Superfast Extension Programme<\/strong> (SEP) deal has already been signed (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/2015\/04\/north-lincolnshire-signs-extended-bt-fibre-broadband-deal.html\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>The new contract will extend the service to at least another <strong>4,000 premises<\/strong> and is supported by funding of \u00a31.18m from BDUK and \u00a32m from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/go\/britishtelecom\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">BT<\/a>, which it&#8217;s claimed should help to push the &#8220;<em>fibre broadband<\/em>&#8221; coverage to around 97% by March 2017 (we expect coverage of 24Mbps+ speeds to reach a few % points less than 97%).<\/p>\n<p>Apparently some \u00a31.1m of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/go\/britishtelecom\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">BT<\/a>&#8217;s commitment has surfaced through <strong>clawback<\/strong> (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.doncasterfreepress.co.uk\/news\/business\/isle-set-to-benefit-from-4m-investment-in-next-superfast-broadband-phase-1-7404340\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>) and another \u00a31m+ has been found from other &#8220;<em>savings<\/em>&#8221; in the first contract (the precise figure has yet to be confirmed), which could also be put back into expanding coverage and brings the total investment to over \u00a34m.<\/p>\n<p>The clawback (gain share) mechanism requires BT to return part of the investment when take-up of the new service passes beyond the 20% mark, which is currently said to be worth <strong>up to \u00a3129m<\/strong> across the United Kingdom.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"bq1\"><p><strong>Liz Redfern, Leader of North Lincolnshire Council, said:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;<em>The first phase of the project was a huge success. It was in the top six nationally for completing the rollout the quickest. I\u2019m positive we will add to this success with the second phase. It is fantastic news that BT is providing additional funding due to the take up of broadband being higher than expected.
