P2P is the specific name given to applications with the primary purpose of allowing Internet surfers to directly exchange files publicly or privately between themselves in a largely unregulated environment; also used alongside the broader term of File Sharing. These networks (e.g.BitTorrent) are often used for delivering legitimate software, content and updates to computers, though some people also abuse them for illegal downloading (piracy).
