The UK governments Minister for Culture, Communications and Creative Industries, Ed Vaizey, has ominously proposed that broadband ISPs could introduce a new Mediation Service that would allow them the freedom to censor third party content on the internet, without court intervention, in response to little more than a public complaint.

CRFS, which develops and supplies real-time spectral monitoring and management systems, has warned the UK communications regulator ( Ofcom ) that its plans to auction licences in the 800MHz and 2.6GHz radio (wireless) spectrum bands for use by Mobile Broadband services should be delayed.

The Broadband Stakeholder Group (BSG), which advises the UK government on matters relating to "super-fast" internet access, has concluded that both wireless ( Wi-Fi , WiMAX , Mobile Broadband ) and Satellite ISP based technologies could offer effective solutions for delivering Next Generation Access (NGA) broadband into rural and the hardest to reach locations.

BT Openzone, a popular UK Wi-Fi Hotspot provider, has joined with the London Underground to run a 6 month trial of wireless internet services at Charing Cross Tube Station from 1st November 2010.

Mobile operator Three (3) has revealed that almost 2,500 Terabytes (2,500,000GB) of internet data flowed over its Mobile Broadband network in June 2010. Facebook was also named as the most popular service, along with popular social networking games from Zynga.com and its top title, Farmville.

A large number of broadband ISP connections in UK Birmingham and the surrounding Midlands area have gone offline in what has since turned into a major outage for BT in the region.

BT has attacked the "high price" of Virgin Media UK's new 100Mbps cable broadband service, which launched yesterday (here) and will be available to 50%+ of the country by mid 2012. BT claims that the service, which costs from £35 per month when taken as part of a bundle, is more than twice the price of their own fibre optic based broadband product and won't help families at a time when "budgets are tight".

Google and has, after some delay, uploaded their new Connected Kingdom report and revealed that the UK Internet economy is worth £100 billion a year (7.2% of GDP), is growing at 10% a year and directly employs 250,000 people.

Mobile operator Three (3) has come out top in 8 out of 15 categories for an independent YouGov DongleTracker survey of 4,053 Mobile Broadband customers (2,160 used Smartphone's), beating rivals including Orange , T-Mobile , O2 and Vodafone UK. In particular 3 were the best for fastest connection speeds, as well as being number one in reliability, ease of use and value for money.

The i3 Group's Fibrecity project in the city of Dundee (Scotland), which aims to deliver "super-fast" 100Mbps Fibre-to-the-Home ( FTTH ) based fibre optic broadband ISP services to 68,000 homes, appears to have stalled due to a sudden restructuring by i3 that has placed 150 jobs at risk.

Communications provider Virgin Media has today reported its latest Q3-2010 results and revealed their new superfast 100Mbps broadband internet package. In total the operators ISP division managed to attract 4,242,900 broadband subscribers, which represents quarterly growth of +35,100 (net additions); up from +28,100 in Q2.
