Wales has today advertised its procurement notice in the Official Journal of the European Union (OJEU), which is seen as a crucial step towards meeting the country's superfast broadband ambitions. The Welsh Assembly Government (WAG) wants all homes to have access to internet (ISP) download speeds of 30Mbps by 2020.

An Ofcom investigation has found that a UK broadband ISP, TalkTalk (Tiscali), has incorrectly billed 62,000 of their customers. As the result the internet provider has today agreed to pay £2.5m back in compensation to the affected users.

A new WiMAX based wireless ISP, Click4Internet, has brought its superfast 30Mbps broadband internet access service to parts of Portsmouth and the Isle of Wight. In addition the service is now also being used to cover ferry trips between the island and mainland UK.
