The Royal Wedding has not caused congestion among the nations broadband internet providers, as some ISPs had initially feared. The combination of a national holiday and widespread TV coverage appears to have kept the video streams down to moderate but not exceptional levels.

Akamai's latest Q4 2010 State of the Internet report has found that the world average broadband download speed is still just above 1.9Mbps, while the UK average is growing in respectability to 4.3Mbps. Sadly only one city, Bradford, made the list of Top 100 Fastest Cities for internet access.

BSkyB (Sky Broadband) has agreed to step in and help BT conduct a proper trial of its controversial new Physical Infrastructure Access (PIA) product. This allows rival UK internet providers (ISP) to build their own next gen broadband networks by using the operators existing cable ducts and telegraph poles.
