How long from G.Fast pod install to accepting orders

Hi

Does anyone know *roughly* how long it takes from the installation of a g.fast pod to that cabinet being able to accept orders ? Pod was installed almost a month ago, and I've been religiously checking the BT DSL checker but still no g.fast yet.

I am in a trail area. Also could anyone confirm this is an actual g.fast pod and not just an FTTC extension pod ?

Thanks!!!

Also first post so ... hi everyone !!

Hi there,

Firstly, yes it's a G.fast pod and you can tell because of the extra vents.

As for the go live timescale, we haven't yet worked out what logic Openreach are using to decide this but it seems to be anywhere from 3-8 months. I really must ask them if they have a more constructive average wait to offer.

Incase you are too far from the cabinet to get get G-fast like me just 24 houses from cabinet and cannot get G-fast. Do the postcode search using the home nearest to the cabinet once that gives results then check your telephone number.

Thanks! I thought it was but i've never seen one. If I follow the road around from the cabinet, then im 265 metres from the cab according to google maps. But what route the cable takes is anyones guess. I'm sure openreach know but I have no idea. I just have to wait for it to show up on the dsl checker I guess... but I get full 80mbits on VDSL so there's hope :)

For the first time since home highway, I'm excited for a new connection / technology. It's not fibre, but it's not 80mbits either...

I also get almost 80 on FTTC that is why I suggest you try using the address of the house close to the cabinet to see if G-fast shows for the address.

Thanks kits. Same result. Picked a house directly opposite it, did postcode searched.. confirmed cabinet 132 but g.fast not listed yet. Just gotta keep waiting !! ;)

just keep testing the house closer once it shows there check yours.

Hi, first time posting here.

One of these G.fast pods have appeared on my cabinet down here in Bridgend.

However, I am way too far from the cabinet to take advantage. I've heard recently that BT are only deploying these at the cabinets and no further away, i.e. a la FTTdp style.

I'm quite disappointed if that is the case because that would mean that unless you can more or less see the thing from your house, G.fast is a waste of time.

Looking at the good old Google map, I am ~480 metres away from my cabinet as the crow flies.

I get 62Mb on FTTC so it's not like I have a poor connection, but before crosstalk started, I used to regularly get 80, and the BT wholesale checker claims 70Mbit for me.

At this point I am considering FTTPoD, but, the cost is something I'm not looking forward to seeing.

Just ordered G.Fast from Zen. Work to add my cabinet's pod was done early-mid April 2019, it's just gone live in the last few days.

Estimated speeds are 317 down and 41 up. I'm about 150m from the cabinet and the Wholesale checker tells me I have a bridge tap.

Oh and hello all :)

Let us know how the estimates compare with your real-world speeds when it goes live :) .

so my install has been completed. I have a Huawei modem and a new socket. My line distance is about 180m and my sync speed is as good as it gets. My line is actually capped at about 87% of the maximum line speed I could achieve (329.5 Mbps).

here’s a speed test output.
And my ADSL Wholesale checker beforehand

Welcome to the world of g.Fast - I get the full speed and when the engineer was connecting me up he got 500mb. I can dream that one day that might let me have that, but to be honest 350mb is enough for one person!

What speeds are you getting at the moment? Looks like I’ve lost a few Mbps on upload.
