Openreach FTTP local plans?

Good afternoon,
Our Gloucestershire village has typical <2mbps (if at all) via aluminium/copper to a distant, non-fibre, cabinet, served by a fibre enabled exchange.
We have a long-standing promise (over 3 years ago) from Fastershire for Gigaclear: enough said.

A month ago, to our astonished surprise, the road through the village was closed, and a Swedish team of contractors laid conduit in a microtrench in the roadway from c. 2kms. away (?to a dark fibre connection), and Openreach followed up with some cable threading into the conduit (a very helpful Openreach engineer), and a team from utilities to fashion/modify selected pole base manholes. Checking Openreach website gives no information re plans for FTTP for the village, and even an escalated question via their chat-line has returned no plans. At the very least this is discourteous of Openreach, as the village was subjected to an absolute closure for over a week, with no explanation. Why Openreach so secretive?
Anyone know a tame mole in the upper reaches of the organisation ?

This could just as easily be another operator making use of Openreach's existing ducts as it could be Openreach themselves. Have you tried asking Fastershire itself?

Thanks, Mark.
Definitely Openreach. New ducting installation. My Fastershire mole confirms not their build (I.E. Gigaclear) but confirms Openreach are up to something !

Could just be a private Ethernet connection or a feed to a mobile cell site, could be a premium FTTP on demand order, could be a community privately funded project. If the OR systems say your not in scope, then it’s not for you.

There is no doubt that FTTP via aerial drop is the aim of these works, as confirmed by Openreach engineers onsite. My beef is lack of official information/timescale, enabling many of us to make future ISP contract decisions...

What's the village called?

Ok let me ask and see what I can find out.

Incidentally and I'm sure you're aware, but Fastershire are currently saying that Gigaclear are set to connect your village from Q1 2020.

Gigaclear website also had 2020 Q1 until recently. Now vaguely saying 2022; no change, however from Fastershire forecast. Exemplifies the muddle and dearth of reliable information in the industry.

Mark, do you have info from Gigaclear, or are you using the Fasterhire postcode checker? My area (Brookend) is also due to start in Q1 2020, as are a lot of other areas, but the last I heard they hadn't even decided which direction the back-haul was to come from (Minsterworth or Chepstow). The Q1 date was before the latest "re-think", and hasn't been updated for months. Gigaclear's own postcode checker just says by 2022 (which I'm not sure I believe either).

Yes the Fastershire one. Anyway I shot off a message to Openreach yesterday evening so we'll see what they say (I usually give them a few days).

Hi Norbeck, we are currently implementing full fibre backbone into villages in Cheshire and I am happy to discuss if we can assist in your village. The scheme is backed by Government funding for the install.

It sound to me like BT have pulled their usual trick; wait until someone else proves demand, then whip in JUST before them, enable the area and scoop up the guaranteed customers.
