Huawei B535 on 3 major problems.

Hi guys,I hope someone can help.

So I have the above router from 3 with an unlimited data sim.
I have it attached to an external omni directional antenna.
Now in the last week or so I have been unable to download games from xbox live on my xbox one s.
When I attempt to download a game,it just says installation stopped????
The speeds are around 50 to 60 down,and 30 to 40 up.

Now if I connect to my fixed line internet from origin broadband the download starts immediately, but through the huawei router the download stops.

This has got me utterly baffled, also if I try to connect my tv and run an iptv service using the huawei router it will not work, but through the fixed line internet it works.
Three technical support have said they have issues at the moment as they are upgrading to 5g,but my connection has never changed in speed act.
Can anyone help?

Try changing APN to the other Three APN. Posting on a phone so you will have to Google for the settings. Also try forcing a 3g connection to see if that helps as the 5g upgrade seems to not affect 3g.

Three customer service confirmed to me tonight that they've blocked Xbox downloads on 4g across all Huawei B535 devices. Apparently because the device is unable to cope. Which, in my mind, makes it not fit for purpose.

If you go to the router settings (default is 192.168.8.1), and into the settings for Mobile Network searching, change it to 3G only, you will find that Xbox downloads work. Slowly, but at least they work.

Seems odd. I'm never sure what to believe.

Do you happen to have 'GoBinge' active. Still wondering if that's the key factor?

Yes, I have GoBinge.

CS guy claimed that the B535 was such a tiny little device it couldn't cope with 25Gb downloads from Microsoft Store at 4G rates. Which is bull%^$&, as my 4G connection tops out at 29Mbs. 3G = about 16Mbs.

If it really is the case that those routers can't cope with it, then they need to replace them all.

Sounds like a health dose of BS to me.

If there's a way to 'emulate' the MS download I would try when next at the location with the B535. Unfortunately the xbox (son's) is here and we're on a 1 Gbs connection, not 4G.

All I know is that on a weekend test, plus a few days prior, with GoBinge we had comprimised rates to fast.com & netflix/youtube glitches which *seemed* addressed after getting that add-on removed. But it will be the weekend before I can thrash it some more.

So I have unlimited mobile data + GoBinge.

If I turn off GoBinge, how does that affect my unlimited mobile data? I assume it doesn't?

Good question... as far as I could see the intent of GoBinge is to allow for unlimited use of some streaming services with a limited allowance. Since my allowance is unlimited I could see no value in it, so there seemed no downside to getting it disabled. I had read they restricted speeds ie to HD resolution. In my measurements it seemed to equate to around 2.2 Mbps. Having it disabled? It seems to have had a positive effect, but even if not, what have I lost.

But I am still exploring these avenues......

I might turn it off too then. Is there a way to get it disabled without having to phone 3? I really can't be bothered to be on hold for another hour...

I did it via webchat. I'm still in my first month so it seemed direct contact was the only option. I think > 1 month it may be possible to do via my3.

Thanks. I'm outside of that, my3 just says I have to call them. Grr.

They gave me some ramblings about it being a known issue blah blah. Not GoBinge. But.... I specifically asked to disable and they were happy to comply pretty efficiently.

As I said.... jury is still out on whether that is definately the fix, but I saw little to lose.

Go Binge removed 30 minutes ago. Problem still exists. Spent ages chatting to CS rep on the webchat thing. First denied all things. then said it was a problem specific to Xbox Live and their problem, then acknowledged that it was weird that it works on 3G and not 4G, then did some tinkering 'cos he thought there was an account configuration issue at their end with my 4G profile (i.e. not my APN settings).

Upshot is 2 hours of time wasted either on hold or texting CS people, and no further forward.

Asked CS to remove go binge from mine earlier via chat (brand new SIM) and they said it would take up to 24 hours. Just checked My3 now and it shows the add-on as still active, with an expiry of the 7th (?!), so probably not an immediate change.

In their system Go Binge is a 'monthly recurring add-on' so that expiry date of the 7th will more than likely be your bill date.

I've also got unlimited and asked them to remove Go Binge but it's just the placebo affect it doesn't seem to actually make any difference.

Are they still saying this rubbra? If so then I'll do some checking as they can't go around blocking devices for that sort of reason, it'll put them in conflict with Ofcom's rules.

I'm have the same issue as you, I thought I was going crazy - I spent some time chatting with Xbox customer support and concluded it was Three performing some traffic shaping shenanigans. I'm actually using my personal Huawei 525 but xbox live is being blocked (so I doubt they have just excluded 535 routers, that seems like BS). PSN and Steam are fine, and the Xbox itself reports all services are available.

I initially tried switching back to 3G and it worked for a while and then blocked again. I can download large files from steam etc and actually the smaller system updates for the Xbox one are fine but any big files are being halted.

I also switched over to my Android phone and created a hot-spot (also three) and it worked over 3G initially but was also blocked last night.

They are definitely up to something but unfortunately there's no connection between Three's customer support and their technical teams so it's hard to get answers.
